After installing and running software for a BB 71xx (hey, there was no version info on any of the links. I had to dig for quite a while to find out. Anyway, it's not my fault...) that locked it up and forced a reboot I uninstalled the software. Unfortunately I've noticed that the ABC icon (white ABC on a grey background) keeps appearing on the top right and overwriting the antenna, EDGE, and signal strength display/icon.

Any suggestions how to stop this behaviour short of reflashing the Pearl? v. 4.2.0.64 on Platform 2.2.0.37 if that helps.

i have read in the forums that if you upgrade to .67 or the cingular .69 that it will fix this bug

i also have the .64 from t-mo and it does the same thing to me but it really doesnt bother me, so either i just leave it or i go into the browser then exit and it usually takes care of it.

thats a bug in the new OS's for the pearl the easy way to fix this just go to type a NEW EMAIL AND HOLD DOWN THE "SYM" key and that will take the pearl out of multi-tap mode. when out multi-tap and in suretype mode the icon "ABC" should go away on the home screen but it doesn't for some reason hence it being a bug. just take it out of multi-tap and the icon wont be there anymore

also upgrading will not fix this problem as I still have it and I'm running 4.2.0.69 on my 8100. like i posted above is the easy and fast way to fix this issue

Yeah, I've been poping into the browser and opening a Web page. Guess I'll try the SYM trick.

There have been reports, and I have experienced too, that the Pearl will switch to multi-tap mode as the default input method. Sometimes it's user error, meaning you pressed the sym key too long. Other times, it just switches on its own.

Yes, you can hit the symbol key to get back to suretype, but to get it back to SureType as the default mode, if it got switched:

Press trackball on the <Options> icon

press trackball on <language>

press trackball on <input language>

scroll and highlight <English(United States)>, press trackball [NOTE: or United Kingdom if applicable]

Press escape/return key [key to right of trackball with arrow on it]

Scroll to <save>

Press trackball to save setting.
