I smell a noob in town.

The memory "they" are referring to is the on-board memory built into the Pearl.

Look at the Pearl display and see all those pretty icons, those are programs using up some memory. Also move around the phone, make some calls, etc. That's your operating system working [just like your PC's XP operating system].

A certain amount of the Pearl's memory is used for programs and the operating system. Out of the box the available memory that remains totals about 19MB. So that is why you see only 19MB instead of the 64MB.

Get a MicroSD chip so to take advantage of all the Pearl's fun features like playing MP3s and videos.

Just the pearls OS takes up a little less than half of the memory. Thats why its very important to get a micro SD card with this BB..

Any one deleted the blackberry sample video that has the size of more than 2mb? One could not delete directly but one can go to apps and from there delete it. I can say, looking at my 8700 and comparing the two the 8700 (with the same programs installed with the exception of the OS) shows me 42 meg available. I also wish I could delete some of those wallpapers as well as the picture ID ones. I am currently at 21MB (removed other language support and only kept the English) The 21 is after having 6 games, themes (which include the ones that come up from the modified ALX file plus the downloaded ones from BB), telenav, gmap, berry411, about 3 MB of mp3 ring tones (mine) Opera mini and IM+. I probably can get it to 30 once I delete the video, and if I can figure out how to remove the preloaded Pic IDs and some of the wall papers.

If anyone is looking for a 1 gb microSd card buy.com has one for 23 bucks. I got mine for 10 bucks after using google checkout and a 10 dollar rebate. The shipping is free and it is alot cheaper than buying it from bestbuy (around $65) and Cingular store (around $80).

I saw a Kingston 1 Gb microSD card yesterday at FutureShop (BestBuy) in Canada. C$50 with C$20 mail-in rebate.

No I could not delete those. That is why I said I wish there was a way. But it sems that RIM is making it tough now to dlelte pre-loaded things. At least they let us take out the pre-loaded video.
