You either intentionally or accidentally saved a message. Once saving a message it no longer appears in your main messages folder. But if the saved e-mail was unread, that little e-mail envelope still remains on the display.

Go to <view saved messages> by pressing the dotted <menu> to left of trackball.

Highlight message.

Press <menu> key again.

Scroll to <mark as opened>

or delete it if saving was unintentional.

you can also hit U and it will go to the first unread msg, but not if the msg is in the saved folder.

If the above does not work then look at your device OS. Several of us have seen this with earlier versions of the handheld OS. Symptom seems to be tied to a sent message when you are hooked into a BES. The newer versions of the OS fix this problem. If you search under "unread message count" in this 8100 forum you will see some of the trail of messages regarding this issue. This is another one of those "some of us have this issue and some of us don't".

I had this happen once too...

Try a reset...remove battery, and see if that helps.

If not, you can call tech supoport which is what I had to to, and he stepped me through clearing a message stuck in "the system" as he called it.

Ok, I went through this process and thought I still have an unread message, I did find some messages I mistakenly saved and was able to delete them. Thanks SanFrancisco for the steps and others for mentioning this potential solution.

I do have the original OS .42 or something like that. And I think BES is that corporate e-mail if I am not mistaken which I do not have. But maybe this is a similar program issue and may have to call. I will try a reset first. Thanks
