Default Just Got My BB PEARL

Please Login to Remove!

I just got my Blackberry Pearl 5 minutes ago and love it already. So I'm wondering if you guys could give me some tips and stuff. This is my first Blackberry. Any crucial updates or software I should install right away? Ramble is a IM software that uses data and not the SMS right? If someone confirms that for me I'm going to try to install it right now.

grats on the new phone. I would suggest that you just start reading post. there are many updates that you can pick from. you may not want to do one though. You will see things you may not like that your phone is doing. Just clear out your day tomorrow and start reading.

Use the search function, it is your friend.

There are a TON of apps that you can load to, just start reading. Good luck and happy readings.

I'm using v4.2.0.64, is that outdated? Can someone tell me Ramble is data so I don't use it so much and end up being billed hundreds of dollars? ><

You got your Pearl 5 minutes ago and are on BBF asking about it? That's got to be a record. Or have you been reading BBF before this?

Yeah, read the threads, there's hours of reading. Most of it is interesting and helpful.

But unlike the other post, you might want to set aside three or four half days for reading and fooling around with the Pearl. There's lots of stuff you can do, from upgrading the OS [if you want], getting a MicroSD card, converting videos to play, tweaking the OS, to ordering cases and accessories.

I sort of heard and came to bbf before I got my actual phone, but even the phone salesman told me, "if you ever get confused you can go to sites like..." and he listed some sites and I even heard BBF. =)

Welcome to the forums...

4.2.0.64 is current but not the most current. For the most current use 4.2.0.69 available from Cingular. It doesn't matter what carrier's version you use. They all work. Have fun!

It's simply the first 5 apps in the list. Go to Options >Organize applications (I think--how you move icons is theme dependent) and move them around til you have it the way you like it.

thanks, it was sort of a theme issue too, cause one of the themes wouldn't allow me to change it. is there a place where i can download even more themes or customize my own? also is there a way to hide my number, i used to be able to hide my number on my old fone so it said "Private caller" or "unknown" is there a way to do that on the BB Pearl?

The search button above can be your best friend here. Let me introduce you... $^)

Short answer: Each theme handles the screen and menus a bit differently. There are threads on obtaining existing themes from other carriers.

As for hiding your number, not sure as I haven't wanted to do that.

But I'm sure a search here would give you more answers! $^)

From the call screen Options>General Options>Restrict My Identity
