Default Unable to Get Vibration for Message Alerts

Please Login to Remove!

I am new to the Pearl, and maybe I am technically challenged, but I can't get my Pearl to buzz (vibrate) to alert me that I have a new message. It does flash, but no buzz. Now, I have gone into profiles and then advanced and I think I have set up everything as I should. I indicate that it is to vibrate in and out of the holster. I indicate a particular type of tune. Indicate a high volume, three beeps, but the only time it does vibrate is when it is on a hard surface, but never in my pocket. I am still awaiting receipt of my carrying case. Does it have something to do with the fact that it isn't in a holster? So what gives???

Make sure that the profile you edited is the "active" profile. But you say it's vibrating on a hard surface but not in your pocket? Go to Options >About and tell us what OS version is installed. It should be 4.2.0.??. If it says 4.2.0.42 then you definitely need to upgrade the OS. There was an issue with the ringer/notifications being muted by the trackball when in your pocket that was fixed in later revision of the software.

Well if you have the profile set to vibrate out of holster it should do it then too. Have you tried sending a message to yourself while holding the Pearl in your hand? My theory is either the vibrate isn't strong enough to feel through your pants pockets or when you're walking or whatever you're hitting buttons while the message comes in so it won't vibrate.

Not sure why it would work on hard surface but not in your pockets, so those are my theories.

I am on Active Profile. The version listed in About is 4.2/0.69 (Platform 2.2.0.40). What else can you tell me?

John:

It looks like I am on the same OS as you. Maybe the issue is that I had the Active Profile on Loud rather than Vibrate. If I do that, won't that effect the way the phone responds. Now it does ring, but putting it on vibrate would change that.

If you have the "loud profile" set to vibrate though in the advanced options then it should vibrate too.

I sent myself a message while holding the pearl in my hand. It did vibrate, so maybe it has something to do with being in my pants pocket. Will it then vibrate once I put it into a holster?

Yes, as long as nothing is setting off the buttons on the keyboard or the trackball itself. It also may not be strong enough to feel, I've had that happen myself even when in the holster. Sometimes I'm just not paying attention.
