Default Pearl doesn't work with BES?

Please Login to Remove!

2 Verizon reps came in to talk to our general manager today so I was emailing him questions to ask them. When he asked them if they were getting the Pearl, they told him it doesn't work with BES so why bother? I don't have that much experience with BES, only BIS so can someone confirm this? Also they said they are never getting the BB8800. This just shows it depends on who you talk to. If you ask 10 different reps the same question you'll get 10 different answers....

The Pearl will work on BES. I have a feeling they were just lazy and didn't want to answer any questions.

Default Pearl & BES

Sounds like those reps from Verizon are confusing target market for a handheld with functionality of a handheld. Pearl works just fine on the BES -- I'm using one on the BES and have 15 users so far (out of ~1800) that are using the Pearl on the BES.

That said, I found with the initial code release of the T-Mobile Pearl, I got it working on the BES...then once I added BIS to it, the BES mail stopped. Seemed like the 2 service books weren't playing together nicely.

I'm now using a Cingular Pearl and all is working nicely with both BES and BIS accounts....and I suspect if the T-Mo handheld code update is applied, it too will work just fine.

I can't stand sales reps. I've been trying to work on our Manager to get corporate blackberry's for a while and these idiot reps just come in and fill him with info that is false. He already doesn't know anything regarding IT or Blackberry's so he takes what they say as gospel........

tell him if he wants to know about BB's working on a BES.....talk to RIM directly or to data support reps from Verizon....those two types are usually much smarter than sales rep. Those sales rep were just plain lazy and/or stupid when it came to that subject. And sales reps probably wouldn't know if/when they would get anything in the BB 8800 series anyway.

and besides Verizon doesn't sell the Pearl anyway....so their sales rep won't know much if anything about it.

You can use the Pearl on just about any version of BES released to date. Older versions of BES will not be able to manage certain functions on the Pearl. Things like restricting the use of the memory card or camera. To manage everything on the Pearl you need to be using the latest service pack on BES 4.0 or 4.1.

most cell providers offer limited support for BB's in conjunction w/ a BES....so many reps don't like to broach that subject cause support isn't too much fun....not much can be done w/o BES admin on phone.....but all BB's to my knownledge work on a BES as long as the info was entered right in the server and Enterprise Activation was done.....and take it from me...I do data support for Cingular....so I deal w/ many BB's that are on BES....some have BIS disabled....but many leave it enabled.
