Default Text Messages and Call Log #s starting to disappear, please help

Please Login to Remove!

I have had my Pearl (Cing) for about a month now and love it so far.

However, this morning I noticed that Text Messages that had not been deleted are disappearing. This mornign I only had 2, one from yesterday and one from 2 weeks ago. I got 4 new ones in today, and now that I looked again only the one from 2 weeks ago is in the box.

Also, when I hit the SEND button or go to the Phone icon on the menu, it always lists the latest incoming/outgoing phone calls. I made 2 today, and they are not showing on the list.

I power cycled the device, and no change. What is going on here?

Thanks all

What does your 'File Free' say? Go to menu/options/status

The phone will start deleting logs and older messages when your memory is full and it needs space.

Wow, that's extremely low. Mine is at 19,453,212 bytes.

Do you have a lot of pictures, mp3's, programs installed?

Do you have a microSD card that you can move your pictures and media to?

Just dumped a few pics, cleared my Browser cache and history, its at 2,408,618 now.

I have downloaded A ringtone, have a few camera phone pics, and no programs installed. Haven't purchased a memory card since I figured I'd be ok without it using the basic functions.

If I install a memory card, will it increase total memory (aka prevent this from happening again?), or is it treated like a 2nd hard drive, and stuff would have to specifically be stored to the card?

it will act like a 2nd hdd but you can put all your pics and ringtones there so that will free up space

Ok I'm starting to get bugged, I delete all my ingoing/outgoing texts I don't want to keep.

5 I was saving from last night were in there, I have not added any more images or ringtones, or used my browser.

I went to look right now and they were gone. This makes me want to throw the Pearl in the ocean in hopes of it finding a clam.

Anything else it could be?

My BB did the same thing. It appears that GMAIL was eating up my memory. I have two questions. Can you restore the deleted emails? How can I set this up so that GMAIL does not eat up the memory?

Pull your battery for 30 seconds, folks. You'll gain free memory back. It's good to get into the habit of checking free memory regularly to avoid text/email/log deletion.

I don't think so. When the Pearl gets low on memory, it starts dumping the oldest things to make room. You mention Gmail... the emails aren't still on the Gmail server, I take it.
Sorry...

They are still on the GMAIL server, which is very confusing. The emails are on the server, so I dont understand why that eats up the Pearl memory. My other BB's did not have this issue.

I don't think the emails eat up a lot of memory unless they've got attachments or you have a ton of them. Rather, the Pearl OS seems to have general memory leaks and memory just keeps decreasing without recovery until the bby is rebooted via the battery pull.

Will there be a fix re this? This seems very annoying.... I wonder if the 8800 has had similar issues. Can you upload the email from the Company's BES to the BB directly?

I hate to seem out of the loop but did you check your settings to make sure your messages settings have been changed to retain "forever"? I thought the default was to only keep messages for 30 days?

A fix? I'd hope RIM (and 3rd party developers) continually try to plug memory leaks. I'm running the Cingy .71 OS and it seems better than the original .42 TMo OS. For now, checking memory and rebooting when needed is the only fix I know. You can also try to increase your baseline free memory by deleting unneeded stuff. Unneeded language packs and the sample video come to mind. If you don't have one, a MicroSD card for pix, vids and ringtones is another option. I've done all of these and I currently have ~40MB after reboot.

Re: mail and BES... can't help you there. No BES experience.
Sorry.

Great point. It was on the default setting. However, the memory was at zero as well. I changed the setting to get it corrected.

Yep... memory at zero... memory leak... reboot bby.

There's also a SoftReset applet you can install:
geek and proud - BlackBerry Software
which will save you having to open the back and physically pull the battery.
