i just received my pearl today, so i'm a n00b pretty much. i know i can take pics with the 8100 but i can't take video...??? i'm i missing something or does it not have this capability?

nope, no video capture on the 8100.

Nope, can not be done. You have to wait until the Blackberry 8800 comes out sometime next year.

i am willing to bet that it will soon be able to take video...

via 3rd party or rim itself....

same was said about the sony tx series when it could only take pics.....
