Default Opera vs. Browser

Please Login to Remove!

Hey, I have done a search but many of them came out to become problems with current Opera users. So can someone give me a link to advantages of the Opera minibrowser vs the one that comes with the blackberry?

Opera mini browser is by far the best! You can view many different sites( depending on what u browse for) in a better layout! The pages just flow together nicely, and it seems a little faster as well! All I can say is try it out, if you don't like it you can always delete it!

Just what Mario said, the pages are laid out very nicely. Much easier to read than the BB's browser. Navigating with Opera Mini took some getting used to but once you get past that IMO Opera is much better.

I'm going to try and get Opera mini, I know this seems like a me being lazy to use the seach function but after putting in the keywords Opera mini there are lots of threads with just Opera mini problems (which makes me wonder if there are any problems I should know that are unresolved that may want to make me not want to get it) can anyone give me the website where I can download it and can someone tell me which version OS must I have to use it?

Apparently I'm not allowed to post URLs to sites yet but just go to google and search for Opera Mini. The first result is the link you want to go to on your BlackBerry. Once there, you will be able to download the program. It doesn't take any time at all. I just downloaded it today and I do like the GUI better than the default browser.

One thing I don't like about Opera Mini is that there is a bar on the bottom of the screen that displays commands on the left and right side (ie: "Menu" on the left and "Back" on the right). I get the impression they are there because they're meant to work with the phone's softkeys but obviously not all cell phones would be configured to make use of it and the BlackBerry 8100 is one of them. So I'd really just prefer if they weren't there at all. But that's a very minor gripe, obviously.

I really haven't used it long enough to discover anything else but I think it's definitely worth downloading and trying out. If you don't think Opera Mini offers any improvement over the regular browser, just delete it

I did a google search and it tells me to go to mini.opera.com as the first link. Do I really need to put my phone number in, maybe it is just me being very insecure but is there a downloadable one where I can install through desktop manager?

I'm not sure how installing Opera Mini via the desktop manager would work. Doing this all via your BlackBerry is the easiest way, in my opinion. Just input the URL into your BlackBerry browser and you'll be able to download Opera Mini OTA.

And for what it's worth, I wouldn't be so paranoid of Opera. They're a very reputable company and they've been around for a while.

If you put in your number, it just sent you a link to download Opera via a message, that is all it does.

I never did get mine to work

At first this annoyed me as well. That is until I realized that the left and right soft key commands can be accessed using the Q/W and O/P keys, respectively. Kind of makes sense - top left and top right one row down from the send and end keys.

the good thing is, if you hit the * key once or twice the bars along the top and bottom go away leaving much more space for your web page. but I'm sure you already knew that.

I didn't even know that, I'm going to have to try it out one of these days...

Otherwise, Opera browser is much better, for the reasons already mentioned. I only use the Blackberry browser to download programs and to visit the blackberry site.

Default Opera as default

Is there a way for Opera to be the default browser?
