Yes, today my Pearl took a dip into a glass of plain white milk (as unbelievable as it may seem)....well, it was not a full glass, it only covered about 1/3 of the Pearl's (the top side, not where the keys are). I immediately turned off the device and took the battery out....tried drying it out with cool air from hair dryer.

After a few hours I tried turning it on and the screen will not come on!!!!

Do you think I still have a chance to save it or do I need to get a new one?

Hmmm... I've heard of many phones / PDAs surviving drops into water, but milk might leave a residue. Perhaps try to "wash" it off with circuit cleaner and let it dry out?

Give it a week to dry out. Don't rush it. Make sure the battery is removed.

i wouldnt have used a hairdryer and certainly would not have tried to turn it on within one day. give it at least 3 days, put a regular fan on it- no heat. a week would be best.

thanks everyone......I will leave it alone and hopefully it will start working again. Cingular is sending me a replacement but I'll be charged once they see that the detectors are activated. The one in the battery compartment is slightly reddish...not much, just a mixture of white and a little bit of red.

does the red-x's mean its been wet? mine are, well more like pink. its never been anywhere near water...

The only way to clean such a phone and feel safe is to go to a place where they have an alectromagnetic 'bathtub'. They would have to disassemble the phone and treat it with such a bath. It is the only way to get rid of liquids from the electronic parts.

The milk however, I am not sure it would help..

As far as I know, the red x's on the battery mean that it has been in liquids, I never looked at mine before this incident. It's strange you say yours are pink/reddish when it has not been in liquids!

Thanks, I guess I am paying for a new device. I don't think I'd feel the same ever again if I decided to keep this one.....it will never be the same again!
