I think we are all waiting for someone to create a new mp3 player for us. you will just have to camp the aftermarket software part of these forums like the rest of us and hope it happens!

This is MP3 only. I've not looked at video at all, i'm a musician so getting a nice mp3 player is my main concern, video may come later depending on time constraints.
Version 1 will be pretty sparse but still nicer than the default pearl player. Once the first stable release is out future versions will have loads more features including the ability to mix and layer tracks like you would on vinyl turntables (no pitch control though of course i might release a mixing application seperately, bare bones without playlists, just two sets of controls and two file explorers).
the ability to ffwd/rew through a track might be missing from the first release. shuffle might have to wait as well - it all depends how quickly the remaining bugs get resolved.
am also working on incorporating scrobbling features for integration with Last.fm – The Social Music Revolution - this might have to wait for a future release too.
i'm keen to get this stable and out there being used asap - the 8800 is due in a few months so i want to be able to port the code and have a release ready for that device as soon as it's released.
please feel free to send any questions or feature requests to
cheers,
jon

update: Mp3 Mixing/DJ application now under development: meshsystem >> MeshDJ - Mp3 Mixing Tool for Pearl
this is much much simpler to program so should be a quicker turnaround, due mid feb at the latest all being well.

Subscribing to this thread.
M3U support in the future by any chance? I'd rather make my playlists on my computer than click on each file to add to playlist.

I just want a bass boosting EQ. The Pearl sounds like crap now compared to my nano and I am really disappointed that I still have to carry around 2 devices.

Snap this is awesome!!!
OK, so some ideas I would love thrown in is gapless playback, and possibly a way of grabbing album art off the net for MP3's. M3U playlists would be hot, as well as the ability to play music by genre.
Would there be an option for easy skinning support? This would be awesome for those that like to create new skins and really customize the player... and I'd be so willing to drop some money on a REAL music player for my blackberry. EQ would be nice, but if it can't be done it can't be done. Not a deal breaker to me.
Visualizations would also be kind of cool, but I'm sure would be impractical. Just some extra bling. Yeah!

One of my biggest peeves with the BB MP3 player is that, once you have a folder playing, you cannot go back and Enqueue any more songs.
Hope the Mesh MP3 Player provides this option.

Just want to say I have the greatest respect for people who know how to do what you are doing. Wish I had such talent. All I know how to do is create trouble [lawsuits and trial work].
Hats off to you for taking the time to do this and post it for BBF members to download.
I donate to freeware program providers all the time and I will do so with you. Make sure to set up a "PayPal Donate" button on your site.

Looks like you are starting to get some support with this. I would love to be able to help with such a task but programs and i do not get along well. Maybe someone out there would be able to create a new video player for the BB? good luck!

Any chance of your media player and dj mixer taking advantage of the trackball lights and LED? Would be a cool addition to have more that just a white ball but a real disco ball flashing to the beat of the music.

It's not their fault if they come from a world where all software is paid for! A lot of folks at my work don't "get it" why some of us like to write free/open source software, they can't conceive of any reason you'd want to do it and not get paid.
(insert comment about marketing versus engineering here)
Thanks for taking the time to code, we're all looking forward to your release.

[UPDATE - thanks everyone for your emails and messages, below is an update, sorry for the wait!]
thanks for your message, i'll post an update to the main thread this week, basically (real) work has taken up too much time since the new year so i've not had chance to make the player stable yet - just need to find a quiet weekend to get it finished!
will tackle it with renewed energy after next weekend, the other player aimed at live mixing is more bug free so that'll be the first to be released with the standard mp3 player coming sometime after - the release date for the new 8800 is approaching so it may make more sense to get the spec for that from rim and release the mp3 player for that and the pearl at the same time - but everyone from this forum who's emailed me will get a copy as soon as it's stable before i do any kind of real release or promotion.
(actually - i may as well just post this to the thread...!)
cheers,
jon
