Default Suretype frustrations

Please Login to Remove!

Does anyone else feel like their Suretype is getting dumber as time goes on? I used to type an entire word with confidence knowing that 80-90% of the time, Suretype would guess the correct word. Having used the Pearl for a few weeks, it seems I am correcting EVERY word, sometimes even the simplest words that one would think Suretype wouldn't have a problem with. For example, I just randomly typed:

"Birds of a feather flock together"

and Suretype translated this to:

"Biefs of a deather flock togryger"

I'm pretty sure deather and togryger aren't even in the English dictionary, but even if they were, it seems the programmers of Suretype would have my Pearl pick the more probable words with those keys.

Is there anything I can do to fix this problem? Or do I just have to deal with it? Please tell me it gets better.

You have to press the right keys.

I just typed it in and it came out fine.

Make sure 1) you do not have multi tap enabled (if it is, you will see ABC in the upper right hand corner) and 2) you depress the right keys.

I realize you have to type the right keys. If you look at the suretype translation that I posted you will see that I did indeed push the right keys.

Suretype is enabled, not multi-tap.

Any other suggestions?

Did you type it in without looking at it first, or were you trying to make corrections as you typed?

Wow I feel so welcome--hopefully this isn't indicative of the rest of the blackberryforum community. Such a nice reply. I'm not really sure where I deserved this, but why don't you offer me some suggestions instead of slamming me? Check out my post and, if you'd like, match up letter-for-letter my spelling to see if I spelled the words correctly.

Perhaps someone other than bobmarley can offer some constructive advice?

I typed it without looking at it first... I just typed another phrase and here are the results.

"A man is only as good as the woman he marries"

and got:

"A man is only as hoof as the woman he maeries"

This one a little better, as hoof is an actual word, but even stranger is that the "he" had the "e" with the carrot over it.

I sure hope not...I've had it for a few weeks now and do not have the insurance plan. I'm hoping there is a fix I can run that will make this all better.

BTW, LOVE the Pearl other than this one problem.

SureType can be a bit of a pain. It does get words wrong but will learn to get them right over time so stick with it.

Oh and as a side note, please don't slam the mods, if you think a mod is being harsh then report it to another mod, don't slam them publically in a thread as it won't get you anywhere.

I tried both combos. the first one the word marries came out wrong only, but scrolled to the right word. I typed the second example and it was 100% correct. I went back in and retyped the first one and the word marries came out right. The way the suretype seems to work here is getting samrter by one choose the correct word prior to executing the word once the correct one is done then the next time the correct one will show up. Give it a try, type marries and then scroll to the right word and select. then start another message and then try it again and marries is the word that will appear.

Wow, uber-sensitive crowd here. I'll keep that in mind for future posts. I replied to the mod's suggestions by stating facts, no slam intended.

Thanks for the pointer...I'll try this out, too.

remove the incorrect spellings from your custom wordlist and they will not appear again. (surprised nobody mentioned that yet)

another great tip, but one I've already done. I've removed all incorrect words from my custom wordlist...I've only had it for a few weeks so my custom wordlist is very small.

I think the problem was how you responded to a BBF mod, even as edited your reply was curt. No "thanks for the reply" or anything. Plus, I think a screen name with the word "prick" in it might not effectively convey the best image.

As to your problem, and it does sound like you are doing something wrong, I too entered your text and it came out perfect, first time. [And this is my second Pearl, about one month old and I have not used those terms mentioned in your post].

So it must be something you are doing. Are you sure it does not say "ABC" in the upper right corner of the display? And you are not looking at the keys as you type?

Something is up, but the issue seems unique to you because this many people cannot be getting the phrases right if there was something unique about the words to where SureType would get confused.

Because of Suretype my friend, Alan now has the nickname, 'slab'.

I suppose I could make an AutoText entry to fix that. Or not!

Don't want to beat a dead horse here, but again my reply to NJBB was never edited. (no "edited" flag after the post) Perhaps I could have been more gracious in my reply, though. As for my screenname, a quick look at my avatar will reveal that "Ruprick" is from the movie Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, a hilarious movie that not many have seen, as evidenced by the many who though my name was offensive. In it, Steve Martin plays "Ruprick the Monkey Boy" in some hilarious scenes.

But back to what is important here, it very well could be something I am doing wrong, but I challenge you to look at the phrases I have posted. "Biefs of a deather flock togryger" The improper letters in those words were correctly punched but incorrectly recognized by Suretype. 100% positive "ABC" does not appear in the upper-right hand corner and 100% positive it is in sure-type mode.

I've had a few PM's on this post so I'm going to try and clear things up. My comments on 'mod bashing' were aimed at BobMarley as statements such as "NJBB is wrong, and doesn't know a thing about blackberrys. Go troll elsewhere" are quite frankly out of order and won't be put up with on the forum. As a result of his actions BobMarley will be taking a few days away from the forum.

NJ has been a large part of this community for nearly two and a half years and, as I think it has been discovered in this thread, his initial view that ruprick was typing incorrectly were in fact accurate.

BBF is a great place according to most of our 84,831 members, so lets all just chill.

As far as SureType goes I believe I hold the record for ammusing inaccuracies - a guy at my office is called 'Amit' and the first time I emailed him my BlackBerry called him 'Smut'.
