Can't receive SMS messages.
 

Just got my 8100 and have it up and running. Tried to receive an SMS message from operamini.com (for the purpose of downloading opera mini), but after several attempts I never receive their SMS message.

I have all email filters turned off, and am receiving both pushed email from my home ISP as well as emails directly to my BB email address.

Am using Cingular.

I know I could download opera mini to my desktop and transfer it to the 8100, but I don't yet have the software installed on my desktop so would like to have it received directly by my 8100.

Any clues about how to receive SMS?

I was able to send one to myself. So perhaps operamini.com is the prob. Or maybe its something like having my cell phone service set to reject anonymous calls. Doubtful, but maybe.

It could just be a technical problem on Opera's side. I'd say just give it an hour or two and try it again :)

Call cingular and make sure that they do not have your number blocked from receiving SMS messages. Somehow this happpened to me during a phone swap. It was corrected with a call to customer service.

Well, I was able to receive one from myself. If I can't figure it out, I'll go the route of downloading it to my desktop and x-ferring it to the crackberry.

Well, it dawned on me that I can download opera mini using the Pearl's browser, so I got it that way.

I had the same problem with Opera. It never sent me a SMS. I believe that service does not work or their system is down. Pretty easy to go to operamini.com and download OTA. Hope this helps.

Yeah, I downloaded it and it worked great without any intervention on my part.

I know you've already got it installed, but one last suggestion for future use... make sure you enter your number without the leading "1" if you're in the US. So, if you were in the 617 area code, you'd use 6175551212 rather than 16175551212.

Just to let everyone know. I got the sms message with the link to opera mini about 24 hrs later.
