Default midpssh and the Pearl

Please Login to Remove!

I used midpssh for all of my telnet and SSH needs when I had my 8700 and it worked great. I got the Pearl and I have a big issue with it. When I'm in the options Menu and there are a list of bullets, it won't let me go to each bullet. It will only let me scroll to each section. Am I missing something? I have the same issue with the Lotus Sametime client from IBM.

Nope, not you -- there's some type of coding style that's used that makes these apps non-Pearl friendly for selecting out of a list like this; I have one or two other generic apps from getjar.com that have the same problem. I've not figured out a workaround yet, but midpssh is in the list of these kinds of applets.

MIDPSSH is a great app, and like you, I used it a lot on my 8700. I've had no luck getting it to work on my Pearl, though. I hesitate to say this, because I'm not a fan of paying big bucks for apps for my phone, but idokorro makes a nice SSH product that works perfectly on the pearl (and uses suretype) - the only drawback being that it costs $45. Crazy money IMHO. If it were half that, I'd consider buying it...

2 quick fixes.

1. download the ssh2-lite version.. (midpssh-ssh2-lite.jad)

2. download source, edit src/gui/SettingForm.java swap the lines "cgSsh.append( "SSH1", null);" and "cgSsh.append( "SSH2", null);", compile (should work, didnt bother to test tho...)

Unfortunatly I do not really know how to program or compile code too well in Java so the second option I don't believe will work for me. What cant the lite version do that the others can?

taken from the midpssh website:

---------------------------------------------

The Lite version is missing the following functionality from the SSH1 Version:

* About box
* Help box
* Settings (colours and terminal size)

The Lite version is intended for devices with limited storage capacity.

---------------------------------------------

my initial issue was with CAPS, i lost an hour or two of my day over this :P is there some way to disable the phone from auto capitalizing the first letter of a "sentence"?? whenever i try to type a username to login i have to do something like "A myusername" then delete the "A " and use the trackball to go to the next text field just to work around the auto cap "feature" ~ i'd imagine there may be some way to disable this based on the text field (like how password textfields don't utilize the auto-cap)
