Someone told me that gsmphone-unlocking.com can unlock the BlackBerry Pearl. You can also try linkitup.ca I know someone who had their Pearl unlocked through them. You can also try Adam from GSMPhoneSource.com to unlock your Pearl.

Just call Rogers for the unlock code. I called Cingular to get my phone unlocked and they sent me the unlock code via email in 9 business days. Didnt have to pay a cent for it  .

Lex Luthor 02-05-2007 03:22 PM

Rogers Wireless doesn't provide the unlock code.

Too bad they don't though

orionpower 02-05-2007 05:00 PM

what is the point

of locking the phones?????

NJBlackBerry 02-05-2007 05:34 PM

The phones are sold at a discount by the carrier. In return, they lock them to their network so they can get the revenue. It is sometime referred to as a subsidy lock.

Of course, they also charge you an early termination fee....

Until about 6 months ago, it was virtually impossible to get Cingular (or the old now new AT&T Wireless) to unlock a BlackBerry. Consider yourself lucky.

Oh do I ever.

NJBlackBerry 02-05-2007 05:40 PM

And I'm pretty sure that if you have a really old AT&T branded BB you STILL can't get it unlocked!

Number_44 02-05-2007 05:56 PM

Care to share your party's reputable address ??? I'm also locked with Robbers here in Canada .... can hardly wait until March 15 .... when number portability will finally hit Canada !!

Nothing like sticking it to the mann.

Its too bad you can't take your berry a different network. Fido doesn't offer blackberry service yet, and if they did, they are still owned by rogers anyway.

I believe that Rogers has an exclusive on the Pearl until the end of March - after that date Bell Mobility will be able to offer the Pearl to its members - I'm hoping that once the Canadian number portability comes into effect that the providers will offer some handsome promotions. All the carriers are now trying to lock up their customers in 2-3 years plan - scums -prior to that March 15 date. Should hopefully become intereting in approx 6 week time for consumers without contracts - hence the current value in unlocking our Pearls !

Not like an unlocked pearl would do much good in Canada, since Rogers is the only GSM network offering BB plans. Gotta love Bell and Telus stuck on CDMA.

Jifffer 02-05-2007 10:50 PM

Next best thing would be to look into T-Mo or Cing's unlimited int'l roaming plan - only drawback - everyone calling you locally would have to make a long distance. We need more options - plain and simple.

canonbomb1987 02-05-2007 11:05 PM

Seems like Roggers has quite a monopoly goin on up there.
