pearl + fingerprints problem -
02-14-2007, 10:07 AM
When i touch the peral my finger prints are impressed and pearl starts looking ugly with too many marks on it beatiful surface - any good suggestions for this. Or a transparent skins available?
I tries laminating the phone but when I tried to cut the hole around pearl - the lamination tore away. Looking for a ready skin that is transparent - as i donot want to hide the beaty of pearl under a cover.

That's what happens with a shiny phone. Same thing happens to the Verizon Chocolate. I just cut two screen protectors and put one for the screen and one for the battery cover and left it at that. Whatever other fingerprints show up (on the sides, top, bottom), I just deal with and wipe them off. Use a sharp razor or xacto knife to cut the laminate.

I have read on these forums that many like a protector called Best Skin Ever. It is a clear protective skin that is pretty much invisible at a glance.
Do a search for it. It may be what you are looking for.
Problems come and pass, but its a shame that some must pass like diarrhea.

This time the laminate is perfect and I puched small holes around the pearl button and is ok, but the puches are just poping a bit and I get a dirty touch+noise when i use my pearl button - have to tear away the laminate again and look for other alternatives.

I use the anti-static wipes almost daily. Seems to somewhat deter the fingerprints and dust.

I just use the Blackberry Skin. The one you can buy with it .. i don't have many problems with finger prints and stuff .. and i do just jam the thing in my pocket .. and i haven't had a scratch yet.
A skin would be the best idea

Just wash your hands more often.
Or, remember that its just a phone, and that everything you use everyday gets a little dirty, and thats OK.
Or, since those aren't the answers you wanted to hear, I recommend the BestSkinEver.com skins. They are cheap, relatively easy to apply, and very sturdy. Of course, they build up fingerprints too, just not as fast.
I have a hard time imagining that a 'home made' laminate would be attractive or functional at all...
I've got a BSE skin on the screen to protect from scratches, and a Blackberry brand silicon skin around the outside, just to protect from bumps, and to make it easier to hold.
peace,
sam

I use the BSE total body skin and it works great. It doesnt get finger prints as easily as a naked Pearl does.
Unlocked 8100c w/ 1 gb microSD, BSE total body skin, and rubberized case or silicone skin.

From a guy who owns/uses a whole truckload of phones, I love my Pearl but... it is the absolute worst finish on any of my phones. Fingerprint and ear-grease magnet, and the chrome sides are all scratched up because they're not that durable. *sigh*
Lest you think I'm an abuser, I treat all my devices well - this isn't a case of carelessness, my Pearl is not in a pocket with loose change or anything like that. It just .... kinda sucks (the finish).
EDIT: I am sad the 8800 has the same finish, I wish it was more like the 8700. :-/

You can also search eBay for "8100 silicone" and you will find quite a lot of cases there. I bought a black one that covers everything except for the screen. It is translucent enough to be able to see the keyboard, but otherwise my Pearl looks more like a Stealth Bomber now

I think that's the best answer yet.
It's a cell phone and if your going to use it then it will get some fingerprints on it. I suggest Xanax.
