Default Crash after "delete prior"

Please Login to Remove!

I tried to free up some space on my pearl today.

But when i selected the "Delete prior" option in the message screen, the BB did not respond any more and i eventually had to do a hard reset.

I tried this 4 or 5 times, always with a crash as result. Anyone knows what could be causing this? Deleting single messages works.

Sounds like a corrupt messages database. Use your Desktop Manager's Backup and restore function to clear it.

I have had this problem too. Near as I can figure, it has something to do with having certain types of attachments in particular mails or "deleting prior" across multiple dates. In any event, after reboot if I go into each message I can delete including the errant message that is causing the crash.

The other thing it could be is when "deleting prior" for more than one date, I have crashed those times too. What I mean is that if I am at the latest date and I say to delete prior, if there are dates below that, then the OS crashes.

But I don't know if it is because of that, the large file or type of attachment.

It's only happened to me once every few weeks so I have not bothered to test and check to see what it could be.

Many times the BB hasn't crashed. It just has a lot of messages to delete and you need to be patient. It can appear to lock up for a minute or so depending on how many messages you have to delete.

This is true, but the times I have crashed I waited about three minutes and one time overnight [crashed before bed and I decided to leave it that way all night to see what happened].

that might be a problem, but when i select the same messages with the shift key and delete them, it is done within a few seconds.

Same here, as I said before, I can go in and manually delete each message after a crash, just cannot use the delete prior feature.

To test my theory about it possibly being a specific message with attachments or due to size, one would have to test delete prior, crash, reboot, delete a certain message, see if it works, crash, reboot, delete another message, test again. I don't have that kind of patience.

Same goes with testing my other theory, crashing if one "deletes prior" when there are multiple days being selected for deletion.

This all has not happened for about a month now and I have used delete prior for more than one date. So this leads me to think it may be a certain message type that gums up use of delete prior, e.g., ones with attachments.

What John was saying is accurate though, sometimes it takes a few minutes for delete prior to work and that appears as a crash when in fact it is not. Query however, it should not take that long to delete messages with delete prior. Maybe just like Windows XP the system gets taxed and has to crash once in awhile and using delete prior is the function that craps out?

To be sure, that poor little Pearl OS is asked to do a lot. I typically have to reboot every few days, especially after playing a game, running videos, etc. So maybe the problem is not delete prior, it's the entire OS is getting overloaded?
