Exclamation Service light and other things

Hello...I m a newbie here. Yesterday I received my new 8100. GREAT !!!!

And here are my first 2 questions ( probably, stupid ones! ):

-When I receive an SMS,MMS or email, the red light flashes till I read them. But when i have an incoming call, the red light flashes untill I answer. If i dont answer, it stops. So how can i know if i have lost calls?

-Here in Spain, my carrier is orange. So the 1 thing I did yesterday, I logged into blackberry orange to configure my email accounts. After that I was supposed to call my provider to start using blackberry service. I didnt, as I soon as I configured my accounts, I started to receive mails!

So, does that mean that the 8100 makes every few minutes a GPRS connection to the mail server, and I pay each connection?

Thanks a lot!!!!!!!
