Default keypad and track ball color change *pics* - 02-26-2007, 09:25 PM

ok so I seen this thread and I wanted to change the keypad and track ball. So here are pics.
(and I know I know, I changed it to blue like everyone else) But I used colored pieces of tape instead of coloring on the light itself.
I hope you like them.

I like it. I'm gonna try it, but I have to get a blue marker (D'oh!) or some tape. I like the tape idea better. Where did you get the tape or did you just color on some regular scotch tape?

I just colored regular scotch tape with a marker. just make sure to let it dry before applying. I did strips of tape that were about 1/4 inch wide and as long as the light row, easier to handle and has more area to adhere. Best of luck. taking apart the phone was a lot easier then I thought. just make sure to follow the instructions and tips very closely and you will be golden!

Looks good, Im gonna have to try this. Did you stick the tape onto the under-keypad side? I assume you stuck the tape over the leds, then placed the trackball on top of that?
Thanks!

ok I took pics and here you go..

so what I did was I took regular tape and colored it blue with a regular sharpie and then cut them into thin strips, so that it wouldn't touch where the buttons make contact and just taped them in place. I found that using thin strips rather then small pieces made it stay better and I could work with it a lot easier. Also with using the tape I haven't had the issue of the marker frying.
Also, I included a pic of how I kept from getting lint and finger prints on my screen. again I just took normal tape and stuck it to the screen while I was going the work on the phone. this way when you take the tape off any lint of prints that might have gotten on the screen in the little time you have it out will go away when you take the tape off. kind of like one of those fun lint rollers you can get from the grocery.
I hope this helps a out everyone. you know maybe someone should market this idea and sell little pieces of colored tape for this very reason? or maybe make a keypad light cover so its all one piece or something that you can just lay down??

anyways here are the pics hope you enjoy..

Looks really cool and thanks for the pics. I have already colored my trakball LED green i think i am gonna do the same to my keypad tomorrow. The green sharpie gives it a blueish green color.

I was going to try red cause I think it would look really nice, but am afraid of it looking pinkish.

Well, on my Motorola e398 days we did a lot of modding to that phone and i mean " A LOT " of it. Well to make the long story short, someone over at motomodders.com got the idea of getting a balloon piece over the LED lights which i tried on my e398 and worked great. I actually did 2 colors when i put the balloons which were Green and yellow. The LED effects looked great because it gave it a green fading to yellow effect from left to right.

I also noticed that the key presses were more tactile due to the rubber on the ballons, so im guessing the key presses on the pearl " might " become more tactile. Ill post some pictures if i do it but if someone else want to try the balloon way then ya can post it.

P.S. Make sure the balloons you get have a very, very light contrast for the light to go through from the LED's. I currently have my pearl ball in a very, very light green color " looks like a light aqua " hardly noticeable but light aqua.

There have been a few posts on here saying that the LED of the Pearl burnt the Sharpie ink. Are you sure the balloon wont melt onto the LED. That could be quite a messy situation.
