| a couple settings I can't find.. Please Login to Remove! sorry, can't find my answers with the search. any help appreciated.
- how do I change the notification setting for emails?
for example if I want my 8100 to be on "loud" (ring on), but I want my emails to just vibrate or show some kind of light blinking thing.
- in "contacts".
let's say i want to lookup a name starting with "k". when I push the j/k button, if "j" shows up, how do I select "k"? the trackball doesn t change the letter, so how? | | Offline

| [- how do I change the notification setting for emails? ]
Go to your profile (main screen) and edit the active profile. Click on each function (phone, messages, SMS, etc. to adjust as you prefer.
[- in "contacts". ]
Just spell the name out -- press the k, ignore the j, go the next letter... | | Offline

| Turn off text recognition, and just double tap. I have had suretype turned off since day one, not really sure how anyone can stand to use it, multitap is just as quick once you get used to it. | | Offline

If your coming from a device the had a full qwerty keyboard then it does take some time to get used to.

You can also highlight a date in the message list, click the menu key, and select "delete prior." Quote: |

I challenge you to give it another try. When using SureType, pay no attention to the letters it is typing until after you've typed the last letter in the word. When you type the last letter, it will correct the word to the right word. As you are typing the word it may appear as if it's getting the letter wrong. Just finish the word and hit space. All will work out 95% of the time. It doesn't predict the word, it basically just corrects it by the end of the word.
Give it another try. I'm betting you'll be surprised and you'll like it better than MultiTap. Many prefer a full keyboard to the SureType but most don't prefer MultiTap over SureType. SureType is much faster once you understand it.

I have yet one more question (I m not fired yet am I? )
I keep receiving these emails coming from "network@etp1107.etp.na.blackberry.net" with "RIM_bca28......" as subject. The emails say " This message is used to carry data between the BlackBerry handheld and an associated server. Please do not delete, move or respond to this message - it will be processed by the server."
what are these messages and what happens if I delete them? they re annoying, can I get rid of them somehow?
i m using an imap inbox, btw. | | Offline

| I was getting these messages and it used to drive me nuts. Finally, one of the BES techs came to my office and he/we contacted BB central. After much puzzle, they found what the problem was. Basically, when on BES, there is only one computer that the BES is connected to. I was using the BES-connected computer at the office and then, when coming home, I was using my home desk top, which had the BB Desktop Manager but was not connected (perhaps "connected" is the wrong word, it could be "validated") by BES. The home computer was giving my BB the information that is was not connected to BES and was giving it not the enterprise email address but the email address I had registered with Cingular. I was told to remove the BB desktop manager from the home computer and that the problem would go away. I did, and it did. The BB techs registered this as some type of malfunction which should not be happening. I believe that it is specific to Pearl because I was using my previous (8700) BB and it never had this problem. Given the occasion, I also mentioned to them the auto-dimming problem with Pearl and they took note of it. Of course, that was about 2 months ago and I have not heard of any patches for that problem.....unless the new OS (see other threads above) fixes it....but nobody so far has said that it did. I hope this helps. | | Offline

Katone, that message is common for those using BB Redirector, are you? I don't use that, but some who does will see this thread and answer, I'm betting. I don't want to lead you wrong. You might search and find another thread on what to do, I'm mobile or I'd post a link. | | Offline
