Unhappy Did I brick it? HELP PLEASE!!!

Please Login to Remove!

My Pearl just hung in the middle of the update process (I think my USB cord got bumped or something.). Now all it does is flash the led red (blink-blink-pause-blink-blink pause, etc).

Did I kill it? Damn I hope not. I can't exchange it because I didn't buy it directly from a phone provider.

Are you able to possibly get it to connect to your computer in any way, get it to be recognized?.. or show signs of life?

Search for and download JL_CMDER - the Javaloader command line program - and use that to totally wipe out the BlackBerry.

Then attempt to reload it.

It doesn't seem to do anything. I told it to wipe it, and it just flashes back to the start screen.

I'm not sure Windows is identifying it anymore.

When you use Jl_Cmder is it asking you to type in 'blackberry'?

If so, then it was recognized by the PC...

Are you on WinXP? If so, when you plug the device in, is it recognized in the system tray? Next to the clock I think...

No, it doesn't show under removable devices. It makes the connect and disconnect noise, but that's it. This is very frustrating, I have to say.

Just be patient and yes it can be very frustrating but thats what we are here for at the forums. I had to resurect a 7230 using JL_CMDR and had the same issues as you it will work as long there is no physical issue

Try this

Wipe device with JL_CMDR before doing the following

1. Install Desktop Manager (You can skip this if it is already installed)
2. Install firmware package for your device on your pc (You can skip this if it is already installed)
3. Make sure Desktop Manager is not running
4. Start loader.exe for C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\AppLoader
5. Click on Next in the Application Loader window
6. Remove the battery from your BB
7. Connect your BB to the USB cable
8. Reinsert the battery
9. The drop down list "Connection:" should now change from COM1 to either USB:UNKNOWN or USB:[BBPIN]. As soon as you see "USB:..." click on Next and Application loader should be able to reconnect to your device. Now you can reload the firmware.

As timing is important for this procedure, it can be possible that you have to repeat the procedure multiple times until you succeed. Good luck!

Guys,

I have a function to go to, but will jump back on this as soon as I get back. Thanks for the words of encouragement.

LunkHead, it wasn't showing up under Device Manger correctly on my work PC, but does seem to be on my laptop here at home. Once I get back I'll try the software again.

My situation worked out just like Number_44. When I got home last night I installed Desktop Manager, installed the updated ROM, and opened App Loader. App Loader saw it and rebuilt it. I lost everything I had, but I didn't have much beyond my email anyway.

Thanks to everyone that offered suggestions, and especially to LunkHead. I'm not sure the JL_Cmder is was fixed, but I got things working shortly after I ran it, so I'll call that good.
