Default Which media player?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi guys,

Just joined BB Forums. I am a proud new owner of the 8100 pearl. You guys have lots of great information here for me to soak up! Quick question...I did a search on what media player works well and compliments the 8100 and I found nothing. What media player do most of you guys use? ms windows media player, quicktime???? I found that my 8100 didn't come with one installed. I attempted to watch a news clip on cnn and espn and it failed. When my 1gig microsd comes in I'll have entertainment to-go. Help me please.

Thanks,
Blackberry noob

I hope you get some good feed back. I recently added a 1G microSD to my Pearl and thought I could sync it as a device using Media Player. Media Player saw it and dump a bunch of MP3 files on to the BB, but the BB did not see them.

I thought it was a “wrong directory” problem so I tried using the BB Desk Top Manager which would not recognize the media card while I was connected. I then used Window’s Explorer and found the device with 4 directories and selected audio and drug and dropped about 50 files, which would have overfilled the device memory. To my surprise they all copied. When I disconnected the BB and selected media, audio, media card, they were all there!!!!

I was worried about how to set the proper directories and BB just automatically did it. Now I have the songs but it would be nice to have a media player to manage them.

I guess I should be more specific. My BB pearl won't let me watch any of the news clip from cnn, espn, etc. Every time I attempt to watch a clip it forwards me to the microsoft windows media player download page. Which version operating system is used on the 8100? Should I be dling the windows media player version 11 or what? Why am I not able to watch news clips?

the Pearl OS is javabased so it's not Windows. There is no Windows Media Player version that will work on your Peark or any Blackberry for that matter.

Check the after market/3rd party apps thread.
Dollar5 has a good media player available.

As for videos I am not sure but the Pearl built in video player works for me.
I haven't tryed to stream video that could be a problem with the service speed or data plan

Ok many ppl asking questions are Not reading search queries!

Upon connecting to your computer go into options> advanced options> media card on your pearl. Turn off mass storage support thee before computer is connected.

Now look at the sticky for Supported formats and there conversion rates of play.

Transfer over your media that suits the limits of your Pearl.

Voila!

As for steaming I'm not sure. Check on CNNs mobile site specific for blackberry links and you may have a solution, as I do recall them advertising blackberry mobile site for news!
