Was this new email address on the BIS? In that case the new "button" will show mails that you receive on your email adddress.
The messages button will show up everything - mails, sms, mms, html pages that is pushed to you. I guess it is not currently possible to do that.
Please check this thread for a discussion on the topic: email to filing software?

The quick answer without you having to search all over the place is to hide the icon(s) associated with you individual email addresses, and use the messages mailbox exclusively. At least that is what I do.

Guys, I read the OP that he wants to separate the SMS messages, which is possible if he wants to change themes on his BB, described in the thread I posted.

The user can decide for himself what he prefers, so I gave him the info to find out how.

JTdarden, personally, I keep mine all together in the one Messages folder also, hiding the others. But I read his request as wanting something different.

^^ yes, i want to separate the SMSs. I dont want to be able to see EVERYTHING on the Messenges button, i want to separate, the Messenge Button shows the SMS, MMS, etc and the Email Address button shows email. Messenges is currently showing everything in one.

With the new 4.2.1 for the Pearl you can choose whether you want a separate folder for sms or not. You go to Messages >Options >General Options >Scroll to the bottom. Here is the thread about the OS upgrade.

Pearl 4.2.1
