Do you think having the backlight on full all the time could do this? I mean when you take a step back that's the biggest change in this software update. The other stuff is pretty minimal from what I've read (I'm not updating until Tmob releases it). If your battery is really sucking it cannot be any of the little stuff doing it, but the backlight uses by far the most power.

I blame Brickbreaker! I can only get up to around 10,000 pts at level 16, so I keep playing over and over and over and never getting any further. Total battery killer.

If you search this thread for "blackberry.alx", you'll have all the info.

I am not allow yet to place URLs (less then 10 posts), but just go to the "Ringtones, Themes and Wallpaper Discussion" and look at jibi's "sticky" named BlackBerry.alx - Edited Files for Packaged Theme Installation (4.1 & 4.2 ONLY)

Just make sure you get your current update, regardless of your carrier. For example, I use T-Mobile, but my current update is TIM (Italy) - 4.2.1.102/4.2.1.66, so that is the proper themes to download.

IMO, this version of the OS completes the Pearl. It turns it from a sexy, sleek, easy to carry device that was kludgey to use, into a sexy, sleek, easy to carry device that's quick and responsive. I've experienced only one of the bugs mentioned here, the java exception when playing certain preloaded ringtones, but other than that, it's been fast and delicious.

I have noticed however, that the quality of my bluetooth device (Samsung WEP-200) had taken a turn for the worse. The voice quality on the handset is stellar, if not improved from before, but since the upgrade, I have been told on numerous occasions (by multiple people) that they cannot hear and/or understand me while using the headset. I ran a test yesterday and called my office voicemail while using it and it did, in fact, sound horrible. I'm charging up my old BT headset at home (Discovery 640) and will pair it tonight to see if the issue is with the Samsung, but I wanted to know if anyone else had the same issue.

Nope. What does matter is your latest update. Check your Blackberry by going to Options then About. Check for the version and then get the themes from jibi's thread. I gave the example that I am with T-Mobile but using TIM (Italy) version. Therefore I use jibi's TIM's "blackberry.alx" not T-Mobile's.

Did you?...
a. Download the right "blackberry.alx"?
b. Follow jibi's instructions (including renaming/deleting the previous "blackberry.alx")?
------ If you are still struggling I suggest you post a question is the "Themes" area.

I as well am on Rogers and am experiencing the same issue. If I update the time to the network time, it displays one hour less than the displayed network time.

Question about separated email and sms boxes: I just sent myself a text message to see if in fact it would be separate from the email messages. It did arrive in its own box but I'm unable to access the message directly from the "messages" icon. Instead, I have to click on the "messages" icon, then click "menu", scroll to and click "view folder", scroll to and click "sms inbox". Is this normal? If not, what am I overlooking and how can I access the sms inbox directly from my home screen?

just updated my software with jibi's blackberry.alx file, works great, only problem I have now is when listening to pre-loaded ringtones on the device I get that java error and the tone plays for like a minute on the home screen. Is there a known fix for this??? Other than that love the new update

You should have a new icon in your menu for SMS and MMS -- that's where you'll find those messages without having to dig in menus.

So what's the Concensus?

Yay or Nay for the upgrade?

Seems like there's a lot of issues (minor or not) with this upgrade, and even though the issues could be minor, it would still bug the hell out of me!

I updated yesterday and so far haven't had any major issues. I'm on T-mobile, so I had the browser problem, but deleting the "messaging download" service book fixed that. I've avoided trying to play the preloaded ringtones that are obviously corrupt. I don't need them anyway, so it's not a big deal. I've tested all of my videos and they still work, as well as my songs. I also haven't had a problem with multitype not letting you input the second character on the key (check the "y" problem earlier in the thread).

Overall I'd recommend updating. I used javaloader (with the JL_cmdr front end) to wipe my device before I updated (make sure to backup first). I figured it was a good idea to start with a clean slate with just a major change to the software.

I have the preloaded ringtone issue as well, but don't use them.

After using this OS now for 4 regular work days, I see I am having to charge everynight. I am in a office where my phone goes in/out of coverage all day, but normally with .64 and .71 I would have 3/4 battery power left at the end of the day. I am leaving work at 5 and having 1/2 to sometimes 1/4 battery.

No big deal I guess.

Go into the messages folder and go to the options. There is an option to separate them. Then a new icon appears.

Hmmm....Honestly I think I would say Nay at this point. The SMS and MMS separate icon is cool if you get TONS of SMS, which I don't, except on weekends. The OS does seem speedier which is good. I actually feel like the media player is slower and I do not believe the camera is any better although you do get some more options, it is still the same grainy image. The web browser stuff is cool but a few people like me have extremely large fonts issue, and it makes it useless anyway. I don't like that I have to scroll across to see the whole page. Overall, Opera Mini is still superior.

I don't know if these outweigh the bad. Battery drain (my biggest issue), DST issues, exception errors when I exit GTalk are the most annoying. Additionally, taking away the list on the Zen theme sucked (again thanks Krad for helping me get it back). The ringtone thing doesn't bother me since I don't use them. Plus once I updated the device it took me a while to check everything and make sure it was all the way i liked it. I probably spent like four total hours on it on the Friday I did it.

I am on TMobile and the upgrade from .64 to the Cingular .71 was flawless, and I feel like this should have been before it was released.

I would go back but its a pain in the ass, so i will wait til another release comes out.

I say Yah and love the new features. I think the new browser features make it superior and faster than OM3, the media player is much snappier IMO the colors looks better and its clearer. I have not seen the bugs many others have and my battery life is about the same as TMO 64 that I was using.

I had the update for a while, but then deleted it. I was having issues with videos pausing, like others have mentioned before.

One thing I didn't notice anyone else comment on was that while I had the update, it played some WMA audio files that I had, and now that I downgraded back to .73, they don't play anymore. Did anyone else find that the update plays WMA's?

I finally fixed this. It took a complete wipe with JL_CMDER and reinstall, and now it's fine.

Would it be possible for anyone to put the file on some kind of server or something like that so that I can download it?

P.S. Can the problem be connected with the fact that I am located in the UK?

I have already tried IE and Opera.

Are you multi-downloading that your connection is slowed? Do you have any programs open that could be sucking away some of your bandwidth? When was your last virus scan?

Can someone confirm something for me...

I am going to download the TIM file, remove the vendor.xml file.
then copy over the blackberry.alx file into the directory
then update the phone.

I'm guessing the alx file is from jibi's thread and I must use the TIM.102 file rather than the O2 one? (I have an O2 Pearl, so do I use the TIM one to match the TIM Firmware, or the O2 one to match the o2 themes?)

Thanks,
Lee.

Sure 'nuff do! Thanks a lot for pointing that out! For some stupid reason (glass of vino number 4 may have had something to do with it!) I "hid" that sms and mms icon and kept the "message" icon. I'll give it a shot, thanks again!

Delete the service book for TMobile US IM client, or something like that. Don't resend, unless you need OZ IM. Then in your settings go to Options, Advanced, TCP and make sure the APN is wap.voicestream.com and the username and password should be blank.

If you need the OZ IM, then you may be screwed.

This question has been answered somewhere in this thread, FYI. I am sure its a pain to go through them all though.

Calling T-mobile for help on an operating system for another carrier isn't going to help you. There's something wrong with either a) how the new OS is interpreting the service book or b) t-mobile may be detecting on their end what OS you're running and blocking the download of OZ.

If you need a multi-client IM program there are plenty out there. JiveTalk is in beta and works really well. Send an email to [email address] and ask to be added to the beta.

i just installed this new OS two days ago. and earlier my yak - on froze the phone so i decided to do a battery pull/reset. once doing this the phone stayed at the hour glass for about 10 minutes then came the tmobile logo then with "app error 523" and it asked me to reset. this came up twice then i finally pulled the battery again. should i be worried?
