Do you think having the backlight on full all the time could do this? I mean when you take a step back that's the biggest change in this software update. The other stuff is pretty minimal from what I've read (I'm not updating until Tmob releases it). If your battery is really sucking it cannot be any of the little stuff doing it, but the backlight uses by far the most power.

I blame Brickbreaker! I can only get up to around 10,000 pts at level 16, so I keep playing over and over and over and never getting any further. Total battery killer.

If you search this thread for "blackberry.alx", you'll have all the info.

I am not allow yet to place URLs (less then 10 posts), but just go to the "Ringtones, Themes and Wallpaper Discussion" and look at jibi's "sticky" named BlackBerry.alx - Edited Files for Packaged Theme Installation (4.1 & 4.2 ONLY)
Just make sure you get your current update, regardless of your carrier. For example, I use T-Mobile, but my current update is TIM (Italy) - 4.2.1.102/4.2.1.66, so that is the proper themes to download.

IMO, this version of the OS completes the Pearl. It turns it from a sexy, sleek, easy to carry device that was kludgey to use, into a sexy, sleek, easy to carry device that's quick and responsive. I've experienced only one of the bugs mentioned here, the java exception when playing certain preloaded ringtones, but other than that, it's been fast and delicious.
I have noticed however, that the quality of my bluetooth device (Samsung WEP-200) had taken a turn for the worse. The voice quality on the handset is stellar, if not improved from before, but since the upgrade, I have been told on numerous occasions (by multiple people) that they cannot hear and/or understand me while using the headset. I ran a test yesterday and called my office voicemail while using it and it did, in fact, sound horrible. I'm charging up my old BT headset at home (Discovery 640) and will pair it tonight to see if the issue is with the Samsung, but I wanted to know if anyone else had the same issue.

Nope. What does matter is your latest update. Check your Blackberry by going to Options then About. Check for the version and then get the themes from jibi's thread. I gave the example that I am with T-Mobile but using TIM (Italy) version. Therefore I use jibi's TIM's "blackberry.alx" not T-Mobile's.

Did you?...
a. Download the right "blackberry.alx"?
b. Follow jibi's instructions (including renaming/deleting the previous "blackberry.alx")?
------ If you are still struggling I suggest you post a question is the "Themes" area.

Anyone else experiencing this?
EDIT: I have tried hard / soft reseting.

I as well am on Rogers and am experiencing the same issue. If I update the time to the network time, it displays one hour less than the displayed network time.

Question about separated email and sms boxes: I just sent myself a text message to see if in fact it would be separate from the email messages. It did arrive in its own box but I'm unable to access the message directly from the "messages" icon. Instead, I have to click on the "messages" icon, then click "menu", scroll to and click "view folder", scroll to and click "sms inbox". Is this normal? If not, what am I overlooking and how can I access the sms inbox directly from my home screen?

just updated my software with jibi's blackberry.alx file, works great, only problem I have now is when listening to pre-loaded ringtones on the device I get that java error and the tone plays for like a minute on the home screen. Is there a known fix for this??? Other than that love the new update

You should have a new icon in your menu for SMS and MMS -- that's where you'll find those messages without having to dig in menus.

So what's the Concensus?
Yay or Nay for the upgrade?
Seems like there's a lot of issues (minor or not) with this upgrade, and even though the issues could be minor, it would still bug the hell out of me!

I updated yesterday and so far haven't had any major issues. I'm on T-mobile, so I had the browser problem, but deleting the "messaging download" service book fixed that. I've avoided trying to play the preloaded ringtones that are obviously corrupt. I don't need them anyway, so it's not a big deal. I've tested all of my videos and they still work, as well as my songs. I also haven't had a problem with multitype not letting you input the second character on the key (check the "y" problem earlier in the thread).
Overall I'd recommend updating. I used javaloader (with the JL_cmdr front end) to wipe my device before I updated (make sure to backup first). I figured it was a good idea to start with a clean slate with just a major change to the software.

I have the preloaded ringtone issue as well, but don't use them.
After using this OS now for 4 regular work days, I see I am having to charge everynight. I am in a office where my phone goes in/out of coverage all day, but normally with .64 and .71 I would have 3/4 battery power left at the end of the day. I am leaving work at 5 and having 1/2 to sometimes 1/4 battery.
No big deal I guess.

Go into the messages folder and go to the options. There is an option to separate them. Then a new icon appears.

Hmmm....Honestly I think I would say Nay at this point. The SMS and MMS separate icon is cool if you get TONS of SMS, which I don't, except on weekends. The OS does seem speedier which is good. I actually feel like the media player is slower and I do not believe the camera is any better although you do get some more options, it is still the same grainy image. The web browser stuff is cool but a few people like me have extremely large fonts issue, and it makes it useless anyway. I don't like that I have to scroll across to see the whole page. Overall, Opera Mini is still superior.
I don't know if these outweigh the bad. Battery drain (my biggest issue), DST issues, exception errors when I exit GTalk are the most annoying. Additionally, taking away the list on the Zen theme sucked (again thanks Krad for helping me get it back). The ringtone thing doesn't bother me since I don't use them. Plus once I updated the device it took me a while to check everything and make sure it was all the way i liked it. I probably spent like four total hours on it on the Friday I did it.
I am on TMobile and the upgrade from .64 to the Cingular .71 was flawless, and I feel like this should have been before it was released.
I would go back but its a pain in the ass, so i will wait til another release comes out.
