i just installed this new OS two days ago. and earlier my yak - on froze the phone so i decided to do a battery pull/reset. once doing this the phone stayed at the hour glass for about 10 minutes then came the tmobile logo then with "app error 523" and it asked me to reset. this came up twice then i finally pulled the battery again. should i be worried?

I'm liking it. I did a benchmark test and it's a lot faster now than it ever was. I still have to check out what new themes came with it, but so far it's pretty cool.

This question has been answered somewhere in this thread, FYI. I am sure its a pain to go through them all though.
I'd go ahead and resend the OZ client if you want. The software is running fine for me with T-Mobile and the OZ client. My BES automatically resends the service books to me, and I have no issues.

Someone did answer and said it is probably illegal to do what you asked. The file needs to be downloaded only from where it is.

I had the same issue with Tim Italy and the Telstra update. First thing is to make sure that your APN is set as above. If all else fails hit the jad directly. I can't post the link since I dont have > 10 posts.

So you've updated to the Telstra? Over in that thread is a question I'm waiting to get answered -- does the Telstra version still have java excpetion errors when playing the preloaded ringtones? We're curious if these two releases act the same regarding that small buglet...

Yep, same problem with preloaded ringtones on Telstra. But my videos play correctly with Telstra where on TMI I had to pull the battery on them.

For those having issue with OZ messanger.
I think I found it.
Someone else posted it.

here it is:

The solution to this issue is at the very end, after "UPDATE", but maybe some of the other steps might be useful to someone...

------------

on the main menu when i open the instant messenging (not the blackberry messenger) i wind up on "the page you are trying to load could not be found." if you click 'details' on the error page you can see the address is (http:// 1. 1. 10. 4. 5) - that's not a valid address (too many periods, should be 4 numbers not 5, seems like a typo in the programming...?

according to t-mobile it is the 'Oz Messenger,' they said it's no good, the guy i talked to said they're getting rid of it. (not clear about whether they're replacing it or getting rid of it permanently) But he gave me the steps to get an updated version of oz messenger (which contains the aol, yahoo, msm and icq). it didn't work for me LOL.

maybe first check to see if the program is even there to begin with. it should be under Options > Advanced Options > Applications > Oz Messenger... (there is no OZ on my phone).

1) from 'home' screen open Options > Security Options > click on Firewall > when firewall opens use the Menu key (next to trackball) > click on Reset Settings. after clicking on 'Reset Settings' if the Firewall 'Status' says 'Disabled' change it to 'Enabled' (it may have already been enabled)... save your changes

2) then go to Options > Advanced Options > Applications > highlight the title 'Oz Instant Messenger' use the menu key to delete OZ Messenger. (mine was already missing?) at this point your Blackberry should turn itself off and back on again. it might be a good idea to restart it anyway even if OZ was already gone. seems like it can't hurt.

3) after restarting the blackberry you need to download the newer/fixed Oz Messenger. there are two ways you can go, either way, doesn't matter which.

3a) either open the blackberry browser to the bookmarks page. look for the t-zones links. go to install instant messenger. (that bookmark is missing for me).

3b) or open Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Table > look for the T-Mobile USA # that is in bold letters. only one is bold. highlight the bold one. use the menu(blackberry key). select Register Now. then there will be a confirmation 'OK'.

4) then you will get a message from tmobile saying you've been registered with the network... (after this when i try to open the Instant Messenger i still wind up at the same 404 page cannot be found and there is still no Oz Application on my phone).

did some searching around the web, looks like most people think the program is junk anyway, seems like t-mobile thinks so too...

at very least t-mobile says it's a known issue right now with all their blackberries. guess they're working on it.

Mobile Customer Service gave me the extension for blackberry tech (800-937-8997 ex 4), it bypasses the customer support and goes directly to blackberry tech its supposed to be that you can just type in the '4' and bypass having to talk to the machine helps if you wait to say 'english' first though. the guy i talked to seemed very interested if i was having any other issues with the pearl. maybe they are rewriting the OS. or maybe they're trying to fix things before releasing the next one?

-----------------------

UPDATE: i called t-mobile again, after above steps didn't work. this time they had me open the blackberry browser and go to (www. tmobileapps. com/ downloadcenter/ files/ oz/ pearl/ instantmessaging.jad)

the page asks you to download the instant messenger. if it says something about no signature just say 'ok' (i didn't see that warning). the program downloads. it will ask you a couple times "Do you want to allow the application Instant Messaging to act as a server?". select "Allow this connection."

when that's finished (it should say download was successful or something), when you're back to main/home screen do a hard reset (remove the battery, wait 15 seconds, then replace the battery) turning off the phone first (hold the end key) is probably a good idea. when phone comes back on it will ask a couple more times about allowing the messenger to act as server. just say yes.

then Menu > Instant Messenging. IT WORKs! AOL. Yahoo, MSM and ICQ all there.
not sure if it's worth all the trouble though, seems like no-one likes the built in messenger versions anyway, but here they are.

-----------------------

works for me too guys.

so there you have it.

Thanks for this. For those that don't want to read all that confusing mumbo jumbo:

1) Options -> Advanced -> Applications, delete OZ if there
2) Options -> Advanced -> Service Books, delete OZ or T-Mobile IM if there
3) reboot with battery pull
4) put this URL in phone:
http://www.tmobileapps.com/downloadcenter/files/oz/pearl/instantmessaging.jad
5) accept all questions with Yes
6) reboot

I'm about to give it a whirl...

EDIT: works like a charm, no step #6 above needed. It installs just like any other OTA app.

told ya.

the reason i posted all of that "mumbo jumbo" is because i was having the same exact difficulties as he was: wasnt in the applications and browser.

but yes,
works like a charm

except with this TIM Italy Version I have to keep allowing all these network accesses.

Thumbs up Thanks a lot - 03-24-2007, 09:47 AM

Thanks a million Number_44. I reloaded many times and will end up with same problem of browser getting stuck on reboot. Removing t-mobile IM client service book did not help any time. I am on BES and had to keep on activating everytime I reload. Finally your link that changes from http://wipcore.t-mobile.com/....... to http://www.tmobileapps.com...... helped me. I use yahoo and aim so I need this app.

I have sent mail to jivetalk few times but never got the ota link and I know no one will be willing to send me one so I never asked as the programmer wants to control their beta versions use. If someone is willing (including the developer) please send to PIN in my signature or PM me.

I"m new to BB, and I am trying to install this new OS. Do you have to have data plan and download from your phone? Can I just download it onto my laptop, and then transfer through device manager? I don't have data plan at the moment. Please help.

1. Download and Install Desktop Manager 4.2 SP1 to your desktop.
2. Download and Install the OS package to your desktop.
3. Delete the vendor.xml file located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader.
4. Plug in BB, Open Desktop Manager.
5. Desktop Manager should recognize an update is available. Follow the prompts. A backup and restore is a normal part of the update but I usually make a separate backup first using Backup/Restore in Desktop Manager.

Thanks John Clark. I didnt delete vendor file, no wonder. After reviewing this thread a few times, I finally caught it. I have alot to learn, don't I? But thanks for the quick reply. Dang, it's been almost half an hour already. It is finally in the "wait for device initialization" phase. I hope it doesn't take much longer.

It's 4.1.18, for whatever that's worth. My problem was after I upgraded to TIM .1.66 then downgraded to RED .0.73 it wouldn't download anymore from T-Mobile; the initial service book was sent, it created an icon on the menu but the icon launched the web browser to a page that came up 404.

At least with the new info from Number_44 I can download it and have it installed, regardless of version. Boy scout move - always have a backup.

bb.infospace.com

It seems to be very faulty with Tim Italy! Sometimes it will give me a network error and sometimes it will work.

I do have the wap.voicestream.com

Default There went the phone - 03-25-2007, 03:16 PM

I loaded this version and used it for two days. I like it, but I had one major problem I couldn't get rid of.

I'm having the same problem someone else reported about not being able to hear the other person in a phone call. This happened to me when talking to several different people.

So I went ahead and downgraded. Figure I'll try the next version after this one.

Has anyone else noticed problems with the Keyboard Lock feature in this OS? At first, I thought I was just doing something wrong, but after having this OS loaded for a week or so now, it's not just me. I find that if I lock the keyboard manually (hold * from Today screen--note: I'm using Vodafone Today Screen, not sure if it's only in this theme), or if AutoLock (by our fellow forum member metsfan) locks it for me and I toss the phone in my pocket, if I take it out even 2-3 minutes later, the keys are unlocked. If I hit any key to bring up the backlight, it's already at the home screen.

Anyone having an issue with Google Talk? No issues with signing in but when I sign out I get this message, Uncaught Exception: Merged Collection modified outside of FolderHierarchies lock.

Then you hit OK, and when you look at the icon for GTalk and it shows you as logged in and available. But when you click on it, it shows the log on screen?

Oh and I have tried removing the app, rebooting, and reinstalling from the Blackberry Mobile Site, no luck.

I've read a few people mention that it works fine with Parallels, but to be honest I'd be a little afraid to try an OS update with that for fear of bricking my phone. As a linux nerd I'm pretty much in the same boat as you, I either dual-boot the laptop back to Windows or use one of my Windows machines at work to do OS upgrade/downgrade.

On the positive side the RIM OS upgrade process/tools are really nice, they provide very informative feedback and are actually pleasant to use; you won't find it as painful as some other Windows stuff. They also install and uninstall very cleanly, so using a friend's PC for the afternoon won't damage their system - you'll be in and out without a trace probably.

Unless someone knows something I don't, I've never been able to get Parallels to work with a USB device. I tried already.

EDIT: So ya, the newest version supports USB apparently. Gonna try to get it working.

I installed the update on a cingular phone and everything works great except BBWeather. Every time I click on the icon I get an error message that says "No weather profiles specified" and then it freezes so that I have to pull the battery. I am unable to get into a menu to check my option settings.

Any ideas what to do?

LunkHead - thanks for the fix. After reading through 12 pages of messages looking for the answer - wish I had that link a little earlier! Thanks
