in follow up to my previous post, I completed the upgrade and so far everything is working flawlessly. The at&t theme loaded automatically without me having to alter the alx file and my internet works great through both the browser and opera mini. Hopefully it continutes to go this smoothly

Default Type Ahead Slowdown - 05-03-2007, 08:46 AM

Since I upgraded to this version, most times when I type, the keys don't keep up with me and their is a delay. It is very annoying many times.

Is this delay more inherent in this upgrade and/or too many programs/memory usage on my 8100?

Thanks

My battery definitely is going through its last stages (full strengght lasts now about one full day) but this problem seems to happen even after it has the full charge.

My first post here

Anyway I just switched from a Treo 680 and got a BB Pearl (CSL Hk Branded), currently using it thru my local telco here in the Philippines under Smart Tel.

After thinking it through I decided to take the plunge and upgraded my OS from 4.2.0.64 to 4.2.1.66 a few days ago. I am glad to report that I am a happy camper for everything works and the only bug i encountered so far is the previewing of the preloaded tunes which i just did to test based on the bugs posted here.

Basically I wiped my Pearl using JL_Cmder and did a clean install from there. Also edited the blackberry.alx for me to access the vendor themes which is sweet. Will update again if I do encounter problems.

I believe you are referring to the browser option to have a cursor. When you're viewing a web page simply click the menu button and select "Desktop View." That will give you the cursor in your browser. To change back simply click the menu key and select "Page Overview."

Ok I have searched but cant find any info on removing the message history from a text message. I know you can do remove history from each message but there is a way to disable it totally. Anyone know how? Looked in SMS options and general sms options as well.

-Thanks.

I have a GPS puck and use the Telenav software (though, the same issue was happening with BBMaps). My BB would lose it's bluetooth connection with the puck and I would have to turn off bluetooth and then turn it back on for it to reconnect. To be clearer: my Pearl would connect to the puck and I was able to use Telenav successfully. When I reached my destination, I turned off the puck and quit Telenav. Then later, when I got back in the car, I would turn the puck back on and start Telenav. It would get to the point where it was getting the route, but then stop and say it lost connection with the puck and never regain it. The only way to make it work again is to turn off bluetooth and turn it back on.

This NEVER happened with the previous OS (Cingular .71) and I've been using the Telenav for more than a month now.

I also had issues with my Samsung BT headset and call quality after the upgrade.

Anyone else with BT issues, either headset, GPS puck, or others?
I know this is a bit late, but I experienced the same issue today after upgrading. Are you still having this problem? I'm in the process of doing a wipe and restore.

Forgive me if this has already been answered; I perused the thread and didn't see it.

Exclamation need help at installing fw - 05-07-2007, 05:56 PM

Hi all!
I tried several times to install this Firmware to my Pearl (vodafone germany software) but the desktop manager software didnt show it in the to install list.
I searched my whole computer for that vendor.xml but I also didn´t find that too. Can sb be so kind and help me?

My biggest prob @the moment is that i cant youse my vodafone BB with my T-Mobile Europe Contract because, so they told me the APN was not correct.

The service-guy gave me the hint to search the forums for help....

I found several posts in different forums where the people wrote that they just installed a brandingfree fw and afterwards they could use it with tmobile.
So please help me with my prob!

Hi!
Thx for the quick answer! But there is a Problem with that guide.
On my Computer there is no Common files folder in Programm Files and no folder called Apploader. I searched my computer for both and also for the vendor.xml but did not find any. I just wiped my BB with JL_Cmder and installed the newest software provided by T-Mobile (germany) because thats the only software that i can install. I will try to deinstall the complete Desktop Manager but did that twice and it didnt help.

Well, that's a first. I've never seen someone say they didn't have a "common files" folder. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader. If you've installed the TMobile OS then it's got to be there unless you've got some Windows Installation that I'm not familiar with.

lol thx dude but i have simply winxp and tried different desktop manager softwares (vodafone, tmobile and Rim). I just wiped of everything from my PC what had to do with BB and just downloading everything again from RIm the newest versions. Their servers are extremly slow.....
Another interesting thing is that the even after wiping the BB completly with JL_Cmder and installing the t-mobile fw the FW still is Vodafone....

When your BB starts up it will ALWAYS say Vodafone forever and ever. You can't change that. The only way to tell what OS you have is to look in >Options >About.

After you install the desktop manager and the OS package again copy and paste this into windows explorer:

c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader

you should see the vendor.xml that needs to be deleted.

LOL finally I found the vendor.xml look where I found it: C:\Programme\Gemeinsame Dateien\Research In Motion\AppLoader
Excellent! It worked! I could choose installing the new FW! THX again dude!

I have a last question: Now that I have installed the new firmware, is the BB free to use with every Provider or am I still limited to vodafone by APN? (not simlock)
I tried to get this info at the t-mobile support hotline but they know exactly as much as I know the only difference is they get money for not knowing what they should.....

I have almost the same issue...I will be talking and then all of a sudden the line seems to go dead. I cannot hear anything from the other end, but I am still connected. I have to pull the battery and then it works fine.

ok... i'm freaking out right about now...

i installed the TIM 4.2.1.66 and i think it's causing my bluetooth not to work correctly with my Garmin Nuvi 680... I want to go back to the old firmware, but can't figure out how to rollback the software...

i have tried uninstalling EVERYTHING having to do with blackberry... and then go delete all the blackberry directories and re-install the software from both the linked download of the older firmware and from the Software CD that came with the phone... but there is never an option to install/overwrite/downgrade the software...

How do i go back?!?!?!?!?

Have you tried deleting the Garmin from the Bluetooth List and re-pairing it?

Since you have deleted EVERYTHING do the following to downgrade:

1. Install Desktop Manager 4.2 SP1.
2. Install the OS you wish to downgrade to onto your PC.
3. Delete the Vendor.xml file
4. Plug in the BB, open Desktop Manager and run Application Loader.
5. It should see the old OS and ask if you want to downgrade.

Note: If you wish you can wipe with JL_Cmder and reload the OS after that. See Main Page - BlackBerryFAQ for lots more info on this.

Hey John,

I have tried those steps multiple times now... it never asked me if i want to downgrade... JL_Cmder gives me the blue screen of death. I'm upgrades me phone to the new Rogers OS now... let's see if that does me any good...

Default Installing problems - 05-12-2007, 03:16 PM

I'm a newbie here, and I can't even download the version to my computer. I followed the link to the website https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/browseSoftware.do and once I download the file it says..."would you like to open your desktop manager now" and that's it. If I choose to open the manager, nothing happens, if I choose not to open it...nothing happens. I can't seem to find the files necessary to load the new OS.

can anyone help?

This happens when you log out and you have not closed your conversations. Close your conversations and it shouldn't happen and it will show you as logged out of GTalk.
