Default Pearl Battery Questions - 03-20-2007, 10:00 AM

I was at a site cell phone accessories - Nokia, Motorola, Sony ericsson, Samsung, LG, Nextel, Sanyo, Kyocera, Audiovox accessory. They seem to have the cheapest accessories around and I have been using them for years for other phones.

My Pearl batteries life is draining and I need a new one and am looking for a good deal. They advertize a Pearl Battery BlackBerry 8100 Accessories - BlackBerry for $16.99 and lists it is the same battery as for the 7130 and 8700. I remember reading on this site that the Pearl battery is made specifically for this phone and be careful with purchasing a knock-off.

Please comment if buying such a battery as cellphoneshop lists is in an issue and I should stick to the manfacturers brand.

Thanks

I am not a battery expert BUT in the few days I had both the 8700 and the 8100 the battery for each of the devices DID work in the other.... I did not do extensive testing but they did boot.... is it harmful to the device???? No clue but they do work in each other is all I can attest to....

Description on Blackberry's website for the 8100 battery is:

Quote:
BlackBerry 8100 Series C-M2 Extra Battery
Product description:

Flight delays, power outages, longer-than-expected trips. You can't always recharge your BlackBerry® device when you'd like to. But with an extra BlackBerry battery on hand, you can always talk, type, and work as long as you need to. Keep it in your bag or briefcase and stay connected, powered up, and ready to get the job done. BlackBerry batteries are designed to work optimally with your device, ensuring it is powered for longer and the battery sustains an optimal amount of charges. The BlackBerry C-M2 Battery™ features a secure, cryptographic chip to ensure you're using a battery specially designed to work with your BlackBerry device. Your device will be powered longer and the battery will sustain a greater amount of charges with a BlackBerry battery, the only one that works with BlackBerry® devices.
A cryptographic chip identified by a closed lock on the battery, ensuring you're using a battery approved for your BlackBerry device
For the other models Blackberry shows the following compatibility:

1. BlackBerry 8800 Series C-X2 (8800)
2. BlackBerry C-S2 Battery (7100i, 7100t, 7100g, 7105t, 7130c, 7130e, 8700c, 8700f, 8700g, 8703e)
3. BlackBerry 6200/BlackBerry 6500/BlackBerry 6700/BlackBerry 7200/BlackBerry 7500/BlackBerry 7700 Series Rechargeable Battery

It does mention the cryptographic chip for identification so I am uncertain how that works.
