It would appear that it will never work. There is only one LED under the ball on the 8800. Not multiple like the Pearl. Lifted my off to see and only saw the one LED.

Not to bring this thread back from the dead...but since my colorball and keys are STUCK in blue (no idea why and I am too lazy to send it back) will this work on my phone or do you think it would be a waste of money? I tried a hard reset and everything

I had a friends trackball that was not lighting up. Tried everything.
After I installed Colour Your Trackball, the trackball lights up again. So seemed a fix, installing this program.
And I don't think this program and thread should be in the dead files. This $5 program is an alternative to the free program. IMHO I like this one better because it has the cycle your trackball feature, which I like.

Exactly,gandalf2041. I'll stick with metsfans colorpearl program. It works well and is better priced (free). Way to go metsfan

Disagree:
1. $5 is not that much above free, but I guess technically it's not free, but $5 is close to free, so price should not be a factor.
2. Colour Your Trackball has the option to stay on all the time, which I like at times. I don't think Metsfan's has that.
3. Colour Your Trackball has the option to cycle through colors, rather than stay on one color. Like I said, I like that feature, to each their own on that.
4. Assuming everyone cheering the free program has donated to developer of the program [see his donate button], the free aspect of the program is not relevant because I assume you donated at least $5.
If you did not donate, then cheering the program simply because you got it free should not influence an opinion as to which program you like better [feature wise].

In any event, to keep this on topic, this thread is still handy for looking at how to take apart the trackball and/or coloring the white LED.

1: No argument...
2: What do you mean on all the time? Even when the backlight has blacked out?
3: It does have a random option that the colors change every time the backlight goes on so when you say this one cycles will it just change randomly while in use? (Edit: Meaning Metsfan program which is what I use currently)
4:Irrelevant to my questions but I agree none the less.
Thanks!

2. Yes - it stays on even when the display is off.
3. I mean that one of the choices is to have the trackball cycle through colors when it is on, flashing different colors, if you will.
Here is a music video I made for the Pearl, demo of the trackball cycling colors AND not turning off.

Very cool! Looks like I might have to reconsider the Colorpearl app and go for this one.

Has anyone thought about maybe creating a strobe or light control program for the 8800? Maybe something that pulses, fades in and out, or strobes for different alerts?

You can use MetFans' FREE trackball program which has certain features [being able to enter color codes to set any color you like]. See the sticky above this section for links to that program.
Or you can spend $5 on Handango to get the Colour Your Pearl program. It has the advantage of staying always on [which I like in some situations, like when I am placing the phone on a dark car seat, I can see where the phone is] and the cycle/flashing mode which is a cool feature, just because. See link in this thread for that program.

doesnt work on a bearl 8130 -
11-07-2007, 03:42 PM
None of the color pearl app (including pimp my pearl, etc) seem to work on my verizon pearl 8130 (running the 4.3 OS) - via installing OWA or download.
Any advice would be appreciated.

The only BB that has diffrent colored LED's under the pearl is the 8100 Pearl. This will not work on the 8120, 8130, or the 8800. They do not have 4 diffrent colored LED's. No way to produce those colors with just a white one. Sorry to give you guys the bad news.

You have to go to the developers website and pay for it. They will then send you a pin for the program.

The only BB that has multi-color LED's is the orginal 8100. This program will not work for your device...

It works on the original pearl (8100) which has colored LED's. Handango is correct that it will not work on the 8130. (I assume you are referring to the 8130 since its listed as your device).
