if you wanna be really cheap just keep installing it every two days... (that's if it really doesn't expire as some people have reported)

I found out what happens when the trial is over, well it does in fact stop working, it will change the ball color but not stay that way. It's the 30th and I guess they were a little late, but I noticed all of a sudden that the color wouldn't stay. I guess they didn't do an uninstall but made it so that the color wouldn't last after the trial is over. Is it just me, or is everyone without the bought product experiencing this?

Yep mine stopped as well. It will launch the app and you can change the color but when you back out of the program within seconds it goes back to white. At least that is what mine did.

I've purchased a key for this product, but have yet to use because the trial version is still running. My installed version said it would last until the 30th and today it's still working and the color stays for the full 30sec I have it set to.

This is one awesome little app! I went to a Dodgers game last night and my colorful pearl got so much attention! Especially from a group of girls sitting behind us. =) So for $5, its an even better app now. =)

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8100/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Surprisingly I am participating in beta of a freeware that does the same - changing color of your trackball. So guys holdon ur purchase decisions till it is released. And the developer has promissed to release it for free.

It's still working for me too

At first I thought this app was useless, in fact that's how I described it to other people: Useless but cute.

Now I can't stand to see the phone with the white trackball. Mine is green.

I have to say that even though it still works after the trial period, I'm still going to purchase it. I feel the developer deserves it...

We would like to thank everybody who purchased our software.

We have just posted version 1.03 to Handango. It fixes a couple of bugs. It is a free upgrade for anybody who downloads it.

1) The application will now auto-start after the handheld is reset/rebooted
2) The trackball will light up immediately after a phone call is ended instead of waiting for the timeout to occur first
3) The trackball will light up on an incoming call

Thanks again for your support.

Well look at that folks, the developer pops up his head as a BBF member. How cool is that. Once again BBF members get the inside scoop.

Default Repost of original link - 04-01-2007, 12:23 PM

For those of you who are coming in on the tail end of my thread, here is a repost of the original post so you can get the link for the program.

Once again, this is a program that installs on to your Pearl and you can change the color of your trackball, to one of six colors.

You download the file on to your PC, unzip it with any one of a number of unzipping programs [e.g., WinZip], and then install the program using your BlackBerry Desktop Manager.

_________________________________________

There is a new program to change the color of the Pearl trackball. It changes the trackball color to one of six that you want [blue, red, green, pink, aquamarine, yellow].

You can also set the time for how long the trackball stays on, 15 to 120 seconds.

Super bonus: The trackball is now super bright in the color of your choice. Much brighter than my Sharpie mod.

There is a free trial period at Handango. You can log into Handango as a guest to get the download or joing Handango for free. [Handango is a PDA and Smartphone software Site. Have been around for years. Apparently the developer has chosen to go through them to make the program available].

The only bad thing that i have noticed is that the trackball color only stays on for the specified amount of time. IE if I am watching a movie, after 30 secs the trackball becomes white again. Or if i have auto lock engaged the screen will turn off after 5 secs like its suppose to but the trackball will stay lit up for the extra 25 secs.

cool app. my trackball would turn back to white after a phone call. i figured out that if you have the trackball setting to on , you have to reset your color. setting trackball lighting to no fixes this problem. just a heads up.

I actually like that it does this. If I could, I'd leave the trackball on all the time(colored).

I'm leery of upgrading as I like the flashing trackball on incoming call. I don't want to trade that for a solid color on incoming call, especially when I get the solid color at all other times. I like the variety of lighting in a variety of circumstances.

Just downloaded the app, usually not much of one for "toys" on my phone but anything that's blue just has to be mine!

Are you saying that AFTER UPGRADING the trackball still flashes, not just lights up a solid color?

Thanks

To upgrade, just go to Handango and get the trial version. Install it over your old files and do the "Application Loader" process again. You don't need to remove the old version.

As for will the Trackball still flash after the upgrade, the answer is yes. The phone setting will override our application.

Okay, I did the update and all works as the developer says it would.

FWIW, here's how it went:

Downloaded the trial version onto my computer(I had purchased the original version days ago)

started the destop manager which detected an update and it asked if I wanted to install the update, which I did.

It installed and the 8100 did an automatic reboot.

After the reboot:

No need to start the app, it happens automatically.

The trackball still flashes as it originally did when on incoming call.

the trackball lights right after a call is answered, without waiting for the time-out.

Thanks again for this app.

Now just give us one that turns the screen brightness ALWAYS ON FULL BRIGHTNESS(regardless of any auto backlight setting).

Oh, and an app for turning off the keypad backlight.

I'd pay for either of those.

I have v1.03 and haven't figured out how to make the track ball flash on an incoming call. Based on other posts, this sounds like a device setting. How do I find this option?

Thanks

Click on call log: click menu: click options: click general options: scroll down to ringtone lighting and select trackball.

Make sure to save the selection.

Hope this helps.

Little side note to add to our previous discussion about how much the developer would make from an app like this:

According to Handango, this app has been downloaded 2900 times. Lets assume an astonishing 90% actually buy the app (and I think thats conservative - it's probably more like 50%). Thats $12,920 in sales. Lets now subtract Handango's 20% cut (also conservative, I believe).

That leaves the develop with $10,336. Like I said before, great vacation money, but hardly retirement money.

This is why it annoys me when people try to figure out how to get a free reg code or how to run the software without paying for it - the developers put in lots of time and effort for a reasonably small return, and they deserve the income from the purchased app.

If someone sitting behind me at a ball game said "I can show you a way to change the color of your trackball and it will only cost you $5" I would pay him/her without hesitation.

Why are so many people trying to cheat the developer out of a lousy $5? Go ask a software engineer to write you an app to do the same thing and he will charge you $5 to listen to 1/2 of your question ;)

Great app!
