Thumbs up New Program To Change Trackball Color - 03-27-2007, 02:52 AM

There is a new program to change the color of the Pearl trackball. It changes the trackball color to one of six that you want [blue, red, green, pink, aquamarine, yellow].

You can also set the time for how long the trackball stays on, 15 to 120 seconds.

Super bonus: The trackball is now super, super bright in the color of your choice. Much brighter than my Sharpie mod.

There is a free trial period at Handango. Download it now.

Note: This, and most other trackball color applications DO NOT work with OS 4.5.

Default Some pics. - 03-27-2007, 03:40 AM

I am probably going to take apart my Pearl and clean off the Sharpie although I can't see where my blue Sharpie is affecting the performance of this color changing program. I suspect this program simply activates the other LEDs rather than changing the color of the white LED, if the white LED can even be changed. So that is why my blue Sharpie is not making a difference here?

I could not get the pics to show how deep, solid and saturated the color of the trackball is after using this program. All the pics look like the trackball color is faded, but it is not.

Look at the chrome and inner rings that the trackball reflects. The one with the red trackball, that ring is about right in terms of color.

Anyway, there is a FREE trial, so install it and give it a try. Takes about two minutes to install.

The developer's site says only for the Pearl, but you can take the gamble and see what happens if you install it on the 8800. Or e-mail the maker and ask about it.

As to changing the color, it's just something new and different than the same ol' white color.

Also, during the night I did a test, the trackball is now so bright it acts as a flashlight.

And lastly, when in a crowd that ball will now scream "Look at me, I am cool and you are not."

Did not see that.

But I don't like OTA anyway inasmuch as if you ever have to do a reinstall, having the program on your computer permits reinstall.

In contrast, if the developer vanishes or there are OTA problems, you are out of luck, especially if for whatever reason you can't reinstall a system backup.

As to MAC users, what's a MAC? Seriously though, isn't there a way to have the alx file put in an e-mail to the Pearl and then install it from there?

haha, thanks for the laugh. oh, and the link. I was wondering when a program was goign to come out for this. Now only if there would be one that can control the trackball and the LED!!!

edit: boo! no OTA version! this sucks!

Dude, as I can see you've put a lot of effort into this. You’ve even called us losers if we don't try it. Pardon my questions, but...is this your program?
Hope u don't mind me asking as I would ask you modify something in order to improve the quality.

I still do not understand. Does this change the color of the ball all the time? or just when you open the program like blinkberry?

Well, first off, I am not a "dude."

Second, no, it's not mine. Feel free to e-mail the developer and give them your insights on how to improve it.

What's the improvement for the quality, as you say? I can't see anything as far as the trackball lighting, do you mean the user interface? IMHO it's simple and easy to use, which for a $5 program is all that can be expected.

Not sure what they might be willing to do since it's priced at less than a latte and muffin.

Bonus comment: Did you install it? Seems like you did. So at least in terms of this thread, you're not a loser. There's some Tuesday morning good news for you.

It changes the color "all the time" meaning whenever your trackball is lit, it is no longer white, but instead beams the color you choose.

But it can be "disabled" and revert to white. [see my pic of the menu].

And of course, you can uninstall the program and go back to virgin white that way.

And no, once activated, you do NOT have to do anything to change to or keep the selected color. The program is "always on" so to speak.

you don't have to do anything physically to the phone...just unzip the files somewhere, run Desktop manager and install it like any other app.

i did this this morning and it is really awesome, i love it...might even buy it for the $5...if this doesn't work:

It gives you about 2 days to use it and such..but i'm going to change my phone date to like, 2009 and see if i get it until March 29, 2009...then change the date back to 2007 and see if i still have until 2009 to try it.

I'd only go through all that trouble if it was $5.00

At $4.95 I'm willing to break out the electronic wallet.

Strange. The light is fading in time. Was very strong at the beginning...now is losing the strength. Red is pink....and blue is pale blue. Have tried on three pearls and the same.

what i don't get is how a program can do this...this is a "hardware" tweak i'd say...as if the pearl was made to be able to do this, so why didn't the Pearl have this as an option? how'd a third party get this to work?

no! do not get confused and get it twisted. When your brightness is dimmed, the trackball color is vibrant and deep. When the screen brightens up, all the excess white light floods the trackball causing it to look washed out. Its not "loosing the strength" dont get it twisted....

Actually it's when the keyboard backlight goes on, the ball color lightens up.
