Default seporate SMS folder on 8100...how?

Please Login to Remove!

this was very easy on the 8700 OS4.1 (just selecting ZEN theme)

the zen theme on the pearl doesn't work anymore. and other theme that does the trick. is there any other solution?

is there a way to get the SMS messages in differend color when i view them in the messages folder.

thanks

I use the T-Mobile Zen (UK version) theme and it sorts the SMS/MMS into one folder and the emails to the other. Not sure about other ways or themes since I'm pretty new to BBs.

Good luck!

Upgrade your Pearl OS to 4.2.1.66 and you can set that in the Messages Options. You can separate them into separate folders.

do you know of any other way to segrigate the SMS messages from email ? i have OS4.2.064 i think (it's the current OS that t-mobile issued on their web site).

i don't really want to get into updating my OS to something later and get involved re-configuring the OS to work on tmo....

blackberry tech over @ tmo said that's the way blackberrys work and couldn't adjust it.

some operator Zen theme like O2 and Vodafone have separate SMS Icon. I don't know if T-Mobile theme have it or not, i will check it in the weekend.

but the best way for you to get a separate folder/icon for sms is upgrade your Pearl to the newest firmware that John Clark said. You can do that by yourself its very simple, you can found it in this forum. :D

Without upgrading your OS there is no way to adjust it.

There is no "reconfiguring" necessary to make the OS work on TMo. Everything is backed up and restored during the upgrade process. After the OS is loaded, it's ready, short of activating on a BES if necessary and even that can happen automatically if the update process is done correctly.

i bet if i complained enough to tmo they'd put out a new update to an OS that supports that feature. if ppl posted in this thread the things they'd like to see in future OS releases from tmo, i can gather them up and shoot a call to tmo.

is this an OS handling issue or a theme issue ?

what about addresses/settings for the device to work on tmo's network ? b4 smartphones, i used to reflash/flex my v3x all the time and configurations needed to be re-input for stuff like APN/WAP settings/etc...

if i snagged the latest OEM blackberry OS, you're saying i wouldn't need to reconfigure to get everything to work like it does now with the OS i am using from tmo ? i would think it'd need to be reconfigured....

this is my first bb, pardon my ignorance....

no, all you need is download the newest Blackberry OS (for pearl is from TIM)
then install it to your computer. after that, go to c:/program files/common files/Research In Motion/AppLoader and delete vendor.xml

after that. run Desktop Manager, connect your Pearl to cable, then wait till Upgrade option show in your PC screen. after that, follow the order.

after upgrade finish, it takes about 15-45 minutes for startup your Pearl. after that go to option - about to check your new firmware.

That is all backed up by the Application Loader. This is not a v3x.

The process is easy, taked about an hour. No reconfiguring necessary. Here are the steps:

Install the latest version of Desktop Manager

Download and install to your PC, the OS of your choice for the Pearl.

Delete "vendor.xml" file from c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader. Deleting this allows any carrier's OS to be loaded on your BB. You have to delete it each time you load a new OS.

Plug in BB, open Desktop Manager. It will see that an upgrade is ready and will prompt you to install it. There are times when the load appears to "hang" for up to 20 minutes. This is rarely the case. Let it go. When you're done, you'll have the new OS.

fyi...there's no way Tmo would care. That would be assuming you could get to someone that knows what they're talking about within the carrier. 99% don't.

And, OS releases are created by RIM, not the carriers. That's why all these OS's work on all carriers, with the proper steps, of course.

Default Shortcuts

Some shortcuts I discovered in the help file for Desktop Manager: While in the messages list, hold down the ALT key and press the '?' key to just show SMS's. If you hold down ALT and hit the '.' key, you get your phone log. Hold ALT and hit '9' for MMS's. Hold ALT then hit '7' for voicemails.

i want to do an OS upgrade, but not until i am more comfortable with the phone and know what all the features/settings mean.

does each version of an OS come with it's own themes ?
