Default Buying a Pearl when I already have service (TMO)...

Please Login to Remove!

I want to switch from an 8700 to a Pearl. I already have a Tmobile contract. When buying from the Tmobile store they give you the $250 price if you extend your contract by 2 years. Can I take advantage of the deals on sites like Amazon in the same way or are they only for new service? It says its for new service on Amazon.com, but it also says for new service on the signage at the Tmobile store.

Typically it's for new service.

I tried to extend a contract with Amazon and they wouldn't go for it. The deals there are for new contracts only.

If you get a phone from amazon or an on;ine sight, you haveto pay approx $200 to get your old cell # transfered to it. It is a good idea if you are getting your first cell line or want to get a new number.

New contracts only. I would pay a little more to not extend which gives you more flexibility.

You can always tell them that you want to switch to Cingular or something. That way they will transfer you to the retention team who have more leaway on what discounts they can offer.

you could also find out if your company has a "premier" contract with Tmo. If they do, email the contact directly and ask what kind of discount you could get as an employee of your company.

My company has a premier contract, and I picked up 2 pearls for $130 US each. That was with a 2 year extension, tho.

If you're not sure, you could tryin your companies' "intranet" page and searching for "employee discounts."

This may not work for everyone, but hey, it's a shot.

My understanding (and I could be way wrong) is that if you are still in a 2 year contract and you are in months 11-22, you get the "before rebate" price ($249 for the Pearl). If you are in month 22 or beyond, you are eligible for the rebate (making it $199). I was 13 months into a 24 month contract and paid $249.

have you tried the walmart trick people were doing? go to walmart buy a new phone/contract opt out within your 14 days and walmart wasnt requiring people to return the phones. guess they missed that part of the sales training class

This is exactly what I am doing. My technique is to find an ebay seller with a good return policy and pay as little as possible. I am out of my 1 year TMO contract but it is a good plan. They would not give me any special deal to stay so I just paid $246 total from a seller with a 60 day return policy.

I am pretty sure that Cingular has a retention them (thats who I have) so i just assumed that TMo was the same way. But ya know what happens when you assume (you make an ass out of u & me).

if you happen to live in southern california, check ur local Comp USA...they are closing all the LA-area ones, and they have great sales. I picked up mine last weekend for $209 ($226 after tax)...i straight out bought the phone...didn't have to do anything with my contract. I gotta check, but I might even be eligible to receive the $50 rebate that's out there rite now...lol

i was in the same boat. im on a 2 year contract and i still have a year left. i would have to pay full price to get it from tmobile. so i found a used one on ebay for around 200.

ebay is the way to go. (if you know what to look for!)

i 3rd the eBay theory, $275 sealed in the box brand new. just make sure you check the sellers rating so you don't get ripped off, no contract extension.
