Unhappy Problems moving data from Palm to Pearl

Please Login to Remove!

I purchased my first BB yesterday - the 8100 Pearl. I am trying to transfer all my data from the Palm Desktop Software via the Switch Device Wizard.

The date book opens, states it exported data, and the SDW shows that it is translating data. It gets to about 8 bars and then just freezes. I finally had to terminate the program after 9 hours of nothing.

No data transfers over. I don't use Outlook. The BB is for personal use only. My service is through Cingular (the new AT&T )

Palm Desktop - v.4.1.4
BB - Pearl 8100
BB Desktop Mgr - v4.2.0

Any advice will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Welcome and congrats on your new Pearl. Hopefully someone who has experienced this or knows more about it will drop some info before too long.

Dude,
you might be SOL without Outlook as the conduit. I went from a Palm Treo 700wx to my Pearl, and didn' t bother with the whole process--just hooked up to Outlook and it synched up with the Pearl. I don't think that's the latest desktop sofware for your Palm. I'd recommend trying to upgrade that first, and try again. Also, reset Windows and try that.

Ropman, I am betting there is some data (or lack thereof) in your Palm which is killing the transfer. Your blackberry MUST have some data in either the First, Last or Company name to "create" a record on the BB. For instance, if you have some contact data on your Palm, say just a phone number or email in a contact record, it will hang your BB data transfer (same for syncing with Outlook).

Look through and clean up your Palm data. Delete any un-needed info, etc., or contacts that are not complete as stated above.

Try it again, and good luck with it.

Thanks for the info everyone. I actually just exported all data from my Palm Desktop into Outlook. I then performed a sync b/w Outlook and BB.
