My Pearl has worked flawlessly for a while now. A couple of weeks ago, I noticed that all of my text messages were erased. Then, I looked in the call log, and they were all deleted, too. I thought it was weird, but then just shrugged it off thinking I accidentally did something.

Then, today, I noticed the same thing--my call log is gone and texts erased. My emails are still in the message inbox, but the texts are gone. Kind of annoying.

Anyone else having this problem? Possible fix for this?

Do a quick search... This is very common. You need to clear your memory. There's a great post [very recently] that has a ton of tips on how to maximize your available memory.

Thanks. I'm not on here much, so I didn't know that this was a common "issue." I cleared up some memory, so hopefully this won't happen again. Here is the other thread I found.

Okay, bringing this back up to the top.

I did the "memory cleaning" from the link above. It all went well. But sometimes, I forget to do this and next thing I know, all of my call logs and texts are gone. Really a nuisance. Can't RIM set it up so that the phone automatically erases messages and calls from 1-2 months ago, instead of erasing the WHOLE LOG? I am going to email RIM and see what they have to say. This is ridiculous.

Do you have a memory card? Are you taking pics? If you are and do not have a memory card to save them to you will eat up the internal memory.

I do have a memory card (1 GB). I have the camera default to the memory card when saving. Even if I didn't have a memory card, this is still an issue that needs to get resolved from RIM. All we need is an option to erase messages that are 1 month - 3 months old (or whatever time period) and do away with the phone automatically erasing messages.

Cant you do that with the Desktop Manager?

I use a 1GB card and did all the steps to clear up memory on my bb and haven't had that issue ever since. That last happened in December. And I really have a boatload of stupid applications installed on here.

I took all of the steps for clearing up the memory. I did it 2 time since I've read about it a couple of months ago. It still erased my messages/logs twice now. Maybe I make more calls and get more messages than you do or something.

All I know is that it ticks me off everytime it happens.

Until RIM provides a solution I would just make sure that you always use Menu + Close to exit an application. I would check your memory each day Menu>options>Status if it's less that 15 MB then it's time for a battery pull (or use a program here call SoftReset). It's a pain but being proactive will save those messages!

And if you have loaded an application and then don't use it...delete it! It will help provide a buffer and you may not have issues again!

I am not sure if this work, but I believe it should be for the purpose that you mentioned.

from your message folder, go to Option > General Setting > set your Keep message to 1 month/2 month or etc.

I set mine to forever, so, i never tested out the monthly thingy.

If you have an SD card (highly recommended due to this issue) you can free up some more memory by going to >Media >Pictures >Menu key >Options >Set Device Memory Limit to 12MB and Reserved Pictures Memory to 0MB. I'm not sure it shows up as more memory free in Options >Status but it does free it up for the device to use. I did this and haven't had a problem since.

Your internal memory is maxed out, you should just clean it and it should start saving your call logs again

I have 27 megabytes available free memory a 2 GB card have done all the things to conserve memory and still nightyl lose my call log....
Any ideas on what to try?

Thanks for everyone's advise and tips. However, I have done everything that was posted. For some reason, though, my messages are still in the inbox even though I set it to 2 months. I tried to do the Calendar option setting to keep the appointments for a month, but I don't have the option to do so? Weird.

Anyway, I hope BB comes out with a solution for this, but they probably won't, since the Curve is out which they'll be allocating most of their time and effort on.

I'm having the same problem with my phone list. Always being emptied. I only installed a few applications and now I'm getting "device is out of memory" errors when synchronizing. To say this is an OS flaw is an understatement. You're supposed to get warnings if there is a problem LONG BEFORE you begin to lose data. As much as people here are ripping Treos, at least I never lost data like this. I have an 8830.

WTF! Less than two weeks from my last clean-up, just got all of my messages erased AGAIN three days ago. I was about to throw my phone through the wall. So annoying. Maybe the new 8800 (or whatever the number is) will be better?

Hey, it is wise to pull your battery and let it reboot weekly anyway, as has been suggested in several other threads about this same problem. Just do that.

I know. I was mainly just venting. I forget to do that sometimes, so that's why it's so frustrating. I guess I still don't understand why this $300 BB doesn't have the same option as my old $20 Nokia.

I emailed BB, but of course, they said that this "issue" was tmobile's problem, not theirs (WTF?), so I'd have to contact tmobile. And tmobile didn't know what the crap I was talking about, so round and round we go...
