Default Recommend going from 8700c to Pearl?

This is kind of dumb. I bought a Pearl when they first came out but sold it before the battery was even charged because I hated the suretype thing. I'm now so displeased with the phone quality of my 8700c that I'm revisiting the Pearl (based on reviews, the 8800 gets generally poor reviews it seems). New Pearls can be had for CAD$300 from reputable eBayers these days, the 8800 is still in the $700 range, so forget it.

So, has anyone here switched in this way? Can anyone attest that the Pearl has much better phone quality? I'm willing to give suretype another try, at least until the 8300 series comes out...

Others here have more experience than I do, I am sure, but having recently moved from an 8700c to a Pearl, I can tell you that I absolutely love the Pearl! It goes without saying that your experience might be different, but I can say that the phone functions of the 8100 meet or exceed the 8700c in all respects (voice clarity, signal strength, data transfer rate, etc.). The form factor was a big selling point for me and I am pleased to report that I like it even more than I thought I would in that regard - very small and light but solid feeling. The SureType is an adjustment for sure, but if you are committed to giving it a chance, I think you will find that is a very workable solution. I already type as fast with it or faster than I did with the regular keyboard. BTW, I have only had my Pearl for 2 weeks, but I used to use the T9 dictionary on an old Nokia so I had some idea what I was getting into with SureType.

Anyway, good luck with your decision.

I had a 8700g before I went to my pearl and I wouldn't switch back for anything.

I did not have exposure to suretype before I got my pearl, but it does not take long to adjust. For me, the smaller size was the reason I went with the 8100. Not sure what you mean by "phone quality"? Are you referring to the quality of the call or the construction of the phone?
