Download program to your computer.

Unzip the file.

Open Desktop Manager

Install the program using the "Application Loader" under Desktop Manager. (Make sure you install the .alx file)!

Then follow these steps after you pull the battery for a reset of the phone.

Goto Options > Color Pearl > Enable > Change Colors.
or you could just go to the link straight from your phone & download it through OTA... much easier.

It's pretty simple right now, all it has is enable/disable and color selection. You can set these in Options->ColorPearl.

You can download it here.

I plan to have more options at some point, but need suggestions on what they should be.

Edit: Version 0.2 is out, same download location!

Colors: White, Red, Green, Blue, Cyan, Yellow, Pink, Custom (Hex RRGGBB), Random!
Is it possible to install this on the device without syncing it? (via email for example)

OTA installs happen automatically. When you download OTA it automatically installs at the same time. When you're done you simply go use the app.

Desktop: download the .zip file to your computer. Save it in a folder you won't delete. Extract the .alx and .cod file into the same folder. Then plug in the BB, run desktop Manager and open Application Loader. Click on "add" and browse the the .alx file you just extracted. Then finish the loading process and the app will be loaded to you phone.

The OTA method is the quickest and easiest.

Ok I apologize for my "lazyness" but I went through a few pages of this thread and well....

I downloaded the program OTA
I installed it
and now my trackball has all the lights lit up at the same time (a section is red, green, blue, yellow, ect ect )
Now how do I change the colors to one direct color? I see you guys inserting the color codes to get your colors

where do I put that in at?

When I go to options>advanced options> color pearl there isnt an area for me to put in the code

Go to Options >colorpearl. It's pretty self-explanatory after that.

Uh.....ok. when you get to the colorpearl options do the following. Where it says "color" click the name of the color to the right and change it from "white" to another color like "blue." That will change your trackball color to blue. There are 6 colors there already. There isn't a need to put in the custom color codes.

If you do want to make some customized color, read up this thread. There are lots of references to customized colors.

As I posted above...... Go to Options >ColorPearl.

Don't go to Advanced Options.

If it's not in the list, remove the battery to reboot the device and try again.

Did you install this using the Desktop Manager? If so, there are issues with some software versions where things get removed from the device. The fix is to reload the OS as you mentioned. Your personal data will be backed up and restored during the process.

I havent looked in between pages 2-10, so I'm sorry if another link has been posted.

But the link when I click on it times out, and says HTTP 500 Internal server error.

Any ideas? Or another place to get this app? It sounds pretty neat.

Thanks

Nevermind, its working now. Great app!

Is there anyway to make it so that the white LED (the one located in the bottom right corner of the trackball) does not illuminate when a color other than white is selected? It seems to take away from the appearance and consistency of the color in the trackball.

I realize there are 427 posts in this thread but this has been discussed in this thread a couple of times.

I put a very tiny piece of black electrical tape over the white led underneath the trackball. Works quite well. It does require disassembly of the trackball, however.

Yeah...I know that this has been dicussed before. And I had already read that you put electrical tape over the LED, but that is not what I asked nor is it what I want to do.

Uh, it is what you asked.

There is no other way. If there was another way, I wouldn't put black tape inside my BlackBerry.

Very cool app. Reminds me of my (one and only) BB app I wrote to set the LED on the 8700c to any color...it was kind of a useless experiment This is much better.

On another note...man, John, after reading some of the later posts in this thread I think you might just want to let some of these rude people figure stuff out on their own. Or at least tell them to learn to read.

Yo use this link below it will work with desktop manager on vista. Download to a folder on your pc that you won't delete. Unzip the files into the same folder.

http://www.geekandproud.net/blackber...colorpearl.zip

Then download and install desktop manager from the link below.

BlackBerry - BlackBerry - Sys Req V4-2 Pack 2

You'll need to install desktop manager. Then connect the bb and run desktop manager. Then open application loader and use the "add" button and browse to the .alx file you downloaded.

If you have a BB data plan you can just download it straight to your phone using the OTA link on the geekandproud site.

If you don't have a data plan you'll need to use the desktop installation that includes a .cod and an .alx file all in one .zip file. Use the Desktop manager/application loader. Open Application loader in desktop manager and use the add button to browse to the .alx file. Finish the installation and it will be loaded to your device.
