Welcome to the forums.
Put the .alx and .cod in a folder somewhere you won't delete them. Then plug in the device, open Desktop Manager and run Application Loader. Use the "Add" button and browse to the .alx file. That will add the app to the list of apps. Then finish the install. The .cod will be added to your device and you'll have the ColorPearl application.

Are you using the link for "OTA?"

In the first post of this thread is a link to a website. There are two links there. One for OTA and one for .alx.
Hover your mouse cursor over the OTA link and note the address. Type that address into your BB browser. it should end in .jad.

If all 4 are lit up it's likely there.
Go to Options >ColorPearl and change it to something other than white.

Replace 8130 trackball -

Does anyone know if replacing the 8130 trackball and housing mechanism with one from an 8100 would allow the color program to work?

No. The other devices don't have the LED's in the circuit board. It cannot be done.

Vadadanielle, there are more than enough posts in this thread that will tell you how to install this color pearl application.
The easiest way is to use your BB's browser and go to:
HTML Code:
http://www.geekandproud.net/blackberry/colorpearl/colorpearl.jad
Install the program. Then go to Options >ColorPearl and set as desired.

From your Applications List in Options >Advanced Options hit the menu key and select "Modules." There should be a module in there for ColorPearl. Delete that module. You may need to reboot the handheld afterward by removing the battery and reinserting.

doesn't work for some reason -
01-27-2008, 06:45 AM
I hate to complain but for some reason app doesn't work for me. Installed it found it in options and when I click it all it says is "colorpearl only works on the BlackBerry 8100/pearl" I'd be glad to donate if you can tell me how to fix this.

Ok so I answered my own question. I thought it worked for the 81xx series not just the 8100. Any idea if you'll be making one for the 8130?

Flashing Hourglass -
01-30-2008, 12:55 PM
Hi..
I just tried to install this and I think I have a problem I haven't seen elsewhere in this forum.
I went to the link for the .jad file and downloaded it onto my phone and it said that the installation was successful. The Trackball looks great with all the different colors lit up, but the hourglass keeps flashing on my screen.
I go into options and ColorPearl isn't there.
It IS in Options/Applications.
I have a Blackberry 8100 v4.2.1.107 (Platform 2.3.0.83)
I downloaded it with T-Mobile Total Internet.
I tried to restart the phone to no avail.
Thanks for any help

Well, Forget that last message..
I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and it works fine now.
And I will also add me "Great App Man!" to the growing list of compliments for this cool little thing.

I know there's already a program to change the trackball color, but it had no OTA install, so I never got around to installing it, and also wanted something I had more control over.
It's pretty simple right now, all it has is enable/disable and color selection. You can set these in Options->ColorPearl.
You can download it here.
I plan to have more options at some point, but need suggestions on what they should be.
Edit: Version 0.2 is out, same download location!
Colors: White, Red, Green, Blue, Cyan, Yellow, Pink, Custom (Hex RRGGBB), Random!
