Could you make some more colors like pink and a light blue? A cycle of all the colors would be awsome too! Great app.

I took my Pearl apart and put colored tape over the LED's under the keypad and it came out looking pretty jazzy. Just follow the disassembly instructions in the sticky and use scotch tape colored with dry erase marker.

Now that sounds a little better, I just may have to try that... the only thing is: wont the lights be very light in color, like if I wanted blue, wont the blue be extremely light? I'm gonna try this out today.

i hate repeating my questions because people don't read....
The OTA version has to be loaded from to the phone directly. THe zip one in the original post is the one throught DM. Download the zip file, unzip it, and then use DM to put it on your Pearl.

PS you cant put apps on the media card, just media.

Correct, when you start the DM, go to Application Loader and click 'Add', then choose the .alx file from the folder you unzipped.
Sakman, just don't post rude comments just because you don't know how to load applications to your phone. I'm sure people read your post, but who really wants to help when someone is being rude?

That's not the way you do OTA installs. OTA stands for Over-The-Air. You go to the website that has the file for download via your BB Browser and download it that way.

I'd have to search but does the 8800 even have the different colored led's? I seem to remember something now about the 8800 not having the option for the ball to light different colors with mp3 ringtones. That's probably why it doesn't work.
Yes, I am still his friend, but it was a pain in the ass and surprise. Never seen that happen before.

Nice. For some reason I didn't like the other app that changes the color of the pearl. I installed it twice and just wanted to get rid of it, but this one is simple and I like it. Good job Metsfan, I love SoftReset too.

BTW I've got something I think would be cool if you could make an app to use the led on the top right of the phone as a flash light in any color you want. I did have a trial app of blinkberry that would do this if you adjusted the settings correctly, but it doesn't work at all on my replacement phone. Makes me wonder if it's hardware is setup a little different. I could tell it's a refurb.

I am sure it uses a little bit more battery power because 2 leds are lit instead of just one. But i dont think it will be a noticeable change. Prob a few mins off of the total standby and talk time.

Default How to get to the menu - 04-15-2007, 11:48 PM

I see I'm not the only one that had trouble setting the color after installing...

Problem was that I was looking for an Icon on the Blackberry 'desktop'; but there's no icon!

Here's how to change the color after install-

1- FROM THE PEARL DESKTOP: go to the 'Options' icon and click it. Looks like a wrench.

2- scroll through the listings until you locate the 'ColorPearl' entry.

3- click it. You're good to Go!

BTW this is a nice app. The colored pearl is an eye-catcher.

I bought the other app. I like it, this one seems pretty cool too, and even though he doesn't actually charge for it, it doesn't mean you don't need to pay, I guess in this world everybody's entitle to a re compensation for their work, being hard work and intellectual work. so just my humble opinion is at least let's give him some and not assume and tell everybody else it is "completely free" he does accepts donations which I guess it would be a nice way to say thanks. I'll wait for the release of custom color. nice work.

hear people say that when the back light comes on that the color pearl becomes lighter. Why not just color the white LED with a black sharpie? I did it and now the light is always the solid color of your choice, lol.

Yeah people, quit being so cheap.

For whatever reason he is posting these programs for free [maybe to use
us as beta testers, test the market, not charge until the bugs are worked out, or just to be nice].

But he does have the donate buttons, which is a nice way of saying
"please donate."

I have donated for his reset program which was a great app instead of
having to do a battery pull.

I'm sorry, that was mean. I'll rephrase:

Really?? *Scratches head...* I compaired the blue to the blue from both programs and couldn't find a difference o.O. Although this program has different colors such as Green, the other program has Aquamarine which is a mixture, he said that he'd make more colors along with the amount of darkness we want *if that is possible or if it was just a misconception* but it would be so great, and yeah like SF I almost always agree with him, donate to this guy, it's worth it.

Default Awesome - 04-17-2007, 04:09 AM

I gotta say this is sweeeeet...I got the other app too but somethin that frustrated me about it was that it had a 15 second delay for the light which pissed me off cuz once I would lock the key pad it stayed on for those 15 secs. complete waste of battery but this app functions like the original light where it shuts off along with the screen awesome. I only have one prob with it changing back to white when I leave it untouched anybody else have the same problem? I've already chosen this over the other program thank you so much METS ur the man!

I've only had this problem once and that was a few minutes after I installed it. It hasn't happened since then so...

Also I noticed that maybe the color would be brighter if the white light wasn't on under the pearl along with the color. Maybe it could be edited to turn off the white light completely if another color is selected. I'm not sure how it works, though, but after my autodim kicks in and lowers the brightness of the screen my pearls color gets weaker because the white light kicks in more from the keypads lighting or the white light under the pearl.

New version, 0.2, is out. Same download location as the first post in the thread.

Added new colors: White, Cyan, Pink, Custom (Hex RRGGBB), and Random (randomly chooses one of the predefined colors every time it turns on)

This version doesn't work on the 8800, but hopefully should not put it into a reset loop. I can't test this, so if anyone is brave enough to try it and let me know, I'd appreciate it. If you don't want to risk wiping/reloading everything, don't install on an 8800.

Future plans: Have trackball color change depending on sports scores! Green if Mets (or team of choice) are winning, blue if tied, red if losing. Maybe different shades of green or red if the game is over for won/lost. Still figuring out how this should work.

Default White light putting a damper on the bright colors? - 04-17-2007, 04:58 PM

Is there any way you could make it turn off the clear or white led in there? It seems to lighten the color of blue quite a bit. Not so much the other colors, though. When I put my phone in standby I've noticed the white one turns off before the blue one and in this split second it appears a very bright blue. Also if it is well lit in the room the autodim feature turns the keypad lights off as well as this white one which makes the pearl bright blue. But when the autodim dims the screen, the keypad lights turn on and I beleive the white one in the pearl turns on which makes for the color not being as bright. Is there any way this could be done?
