Just use your blackberry browser to go to the geekandproud web site then use the OTA setting.
Just done it now, great app, any chance of getting the app for differant colour coverage led?
Cheers

No problems here. I think some people have put electrical tape over the white LED under the ball.

The TIM update changes how the backlight works. It allows you to turn off the automatic backlight. The automatic backlight controls the keypad and white trackball light. If the keypad and trackball light are on it washes out the color. Try with autobacklight on and with it off and choose your favorite. I went ahead and put the very small piece of electrical tape on the white LED under the pearl and leave the autobacklight on. This allows me to have the extra bright mode for in the sun yet have the nice colored trackball when it's under dim light.

This version doesn't work on the 8800, but hopefully should not put it into a reset loop. I can't test this, so if anyone is brave enough to try it and let me know, I'd appreciate it. If you don't want to risk wiping/reloading everything, don't install on an 8800.
|
Tried installing OTA on my 8800. Fortunately, it did not go into an infinite reset loop but it gives me the following message when I go into the Application from the Options Screen: "ColorPearl only works on the Blackberry 8100/Pearl".
I am willing to test the application for you if you continue developing it for the 8800.

I don't think the 8800 even has the colored lights under the trackball. Look in your phone app under Options >General Options. Is there a menu item for "Ringtone Lighting?" If I remember right, there's not. I don't think this app will ever work on the 8800. 8800 users are probably stuck with the colored scotch tape method.

I didn't think so, but then I've never even gotten to touch an 8800. I'm not allowed that close to such sophisticated equipment!

Just remove the trackball. The chrome ring pops off, then unsnap a small metal retaining ring and then the pearl assembly will lift out. The led's are underneath. The white one is the lower right. a very small piece of black tape will do the trick nicely. Just be careful with the chrome ring. It has tabs at 3, 6, and 9 oclock.

I downloaded the program off of my phone using the wed brower and it works great.. i totally like it especially the color Cyan.. But the thing is that.. i think it has a glitch to it because when i recieve a miss call, sms, mms, e-mails, and BB messages on my messanger the blinking indicator becomes solid and changes from light blue, purple, or other colors.. its kinda weird.. is their somethnig that i can do to fix that problem? I mean i think it cool and stuff but i reather have a program for that which is my next question... Is their a program out their that can change the colors of the indecator?

I found that in my case, the trackball was more vibrant with the auto backlight on. Like John said, you have to try what works for you.

What is the life of the LEDs — can they live forever? Or will they die in years? Will this cause overusage which will end their life prematurely?
It's a great program by the way!

LED's last longer than pretty much any other sort of illumination device. Typical numbers are 30,000 to 50,000 hours. That's about 4.5 years of continuous 24/7 usage. Hope you're not that much in love with your Pearl .

Uh oh, after I installed the application (hours and hours later) I set my phone alarm and instead of going of as per usual, my phone went blank (white screen) and said Application Error 503. Is this related to the trackball program or is it something else?

I actually do use a bluetooth but thats not the problem that is causing the solid LED indicator.. but its all good.. i kinda like it that its doing that.. it like changes random colors every time when i receive e-mail, sms, mms, missed calls, and etc.. i just wondering if their is a specific program for the LED indicator because that would be hot man..

So I know this app isn't supposed to affect battery life, but I swear that indirectly it must be doing something.
I am using the TIM software and have Autodim set to On and the screen timeout set to 30 secs.
Before I installed this program my battery life would go down to approx 30% after two normal days of usage. After installing this program I found that after two days of usaage I would only have 15% or so left (and usually I charged it before the end of the two days b/c I didn't want it to get too low). The weirdest thing is that currently I have the program installed but set to "disabled" and now I am noticing that my battery life is better than ever - between 40 and 50% left after two days. I may be imagining things but does the having "disabled" turned on, actually make the trackball light up less than it normally would?
Very strange but clearly something is going on here.

trackball Color -
05-12-2007, 07:49 PM
Hi:
I just noticed and don't know if its because of the Roger update or whatever. When I receive a call, the trackball blinks white with shades of different colors thru it, however, when the call ends and blinking stops, the track ball color is no longer there. Then when the screen goes off after 30 seconds and only when I wake the phone up again, the trackball color is back to what I had it set at.
Did anyone notice this as well? If so, is there anything that can be done to keep the trackball's color when the phone rings and thereafter? Thanks

I figured this out, I went into Phone general options and shut off ringtone lighting. Now the trackball stays a solid color (with color pearl) rather then flashing.

Thanks...had to figure out how and where to download the program since it wasnt mentioned to load as application. Guess it was assumed that everyone knew that. But it works and is really neat, especially the random selection...changes color each time the phone is pulled out of its case. Awesome!!!

Awsome app I must say. You'll be gettin my donation DEF. On a further update though would it be possible to have a cycle option with it so it changes colors continuously that would rock. And was wondering if ya got the know how to do allthis is it possible for you to hook up an alarm app that is a bit better then the phones piece O' crap heh. Maybe let ya pick one time alarm or multiple without havin ta reset it all the time. Just a thought. I know I'd pay for that or at least give ya another donation for it. And I'm sure a lot of other people share this request of mine. Thanx in adVance

This app shoould help for alarms. It says free "upgrade" but thats for those who already purchased the old version. It's not a free app, though.

i noticed on your other site you were looking for more features to add, i think a cool feature would be, if the led's supported different intensity settings would be to have the color morph or change like scrolling through the whole spectrum of colors.
i think i explained that right
