Default Pearl Trackball

Please Login to Remove!

I love my Pearl and I like the trackball, but i had many troubles with the trackball. Sometimes it doesn't work, so i can't move up or down left or right.
I bought a second Pearl , and after a few weeks, I encountered the same problems.
i am surprised i didn't find other users with the same problem

Do you keep it in your pocket?

the trackball is really similar to the ball inside a computer mouse. It picks up dust and dirt just the same. The whole trackball enclosure pops out and isn't too difficult to clean but you have to be very careful to not lose any of the small pieces. I really would only recommend it if you're comfortable disassembling a part of your phone or if you have experience doing that before. I think someone posted a trackball disassembly guide somewhere here on the forum.

I like to clean my trackball once a week with some 70% alcohol, and a q tip. Use one end that has alcohol on it and the other end to pick up any extra moisture. Works like a charm.

Default Pearl Trackball

. Yes, I keep it mostly in my pocket, in standby mode. I understand other users had similar problems with the trackball. I don't think I like to disassemble the phone. Do you think that cleaning the trackball from outside can help? I understand it is purely a mechanical problem, not related to the software Thanks for your answers

I had that problem awhile back, and I carry mine in my pocket as well.

I just pushed on the pearl harder then normal and shoved it all different directions. Got whatever was stuck on the ball/rollers and works fine now.

Lint and dirt in your pocket is the culprit. Get a can of compress air and blow out the dust/dirt everything once and a while. =)

Actually, if you are VERY careful, hydrogen peroxide is a much better cleaner, the only problem being is that you dont want it to come into contact with the plastic cover too much. A couple seconds isnt going to hurt, but much longer than that can act as a bleaching agent, but it will definately clean your track ball. I would also, after it dries after a few minutes give it a couple good blasts with compressed air, its amazing how much crud can get caught down there especially if you have a long haired cat like me.......

OR maybe he meant thread instead of program and was torn between hydrogen peroxide and 70% alcohol!

Default Pearl Trackball

Now I can roll it ( left, right, up and down) but I cannot push it. I mean, I push the trackball and nothing happens. I tried to clean the trackball with alcohol and compressed air, but it still doesn’t work.
What do you suggest?

Id say take it back if under warrenty. I think the track ball was a good idea theoretically, and a bad idea reallisticly. They didnt make it easy to service, but they did make it so id did need servicing.
