Default Software upgrades through Cingular?

Please Login to Remove!

After doing some searching here, I would like to do a software update to my slate 8100c. My Pearl already has the .71 version.

I searched Cingular's site, and found the following information: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/browseSoftware.do

Red Pearl Software:
Software For BlackBerry Pearl (Red 8100c)

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.2.0.89 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.2.0.89
Consisting of:
Applications: 4.2.0.73
Software Platform: 2.2.0.41
File name: 8100M_PBr4.2.0_rel89_PL2.2.0.41_A4.2.0.73_Cingular .exe
File size: 68.02MB

Slate Software:
Software For BlackBerry Pearl (Maine Slate 8100c)

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.2.0.88 (Multilang)

Package Version: 4.2.0.88
Consisting of:
Applications: 4.2.0.71
Software Platform: 2.2.0.41
File name: 8100M_PBr4.2.0_rel88_PL2.2.0.41_A4.2.0.71_Cingular .exe
File size: 68.01MB

Is there an actual difference in the between the two phones to constitute the different softwares, or has Cingular just not updated the site to show the software for the slate pearl?

I've used this phone just over a week, and like it so far. Little things bug me, but overall, it is a wonderful tool.

I saw referenced in another thread that updating the software will void the warranty. If this is true, I'd rather upgrade through Cingular. But if it doesn't affect the warranty, I'll go ahead and upgrade.

Thanks for the help.

If you returned it with that Italy software on it you would void the warranty. You could reinstall the Cingular software however. I've read many posts about the newest Italy software. It basically adds 2 things: you can make your backlight stay bright in any lighting condition, and you get separate folders for Txt and emails (I think). Otherwise it doesn't add anything, and there are things you give up (forget exactly what). Many have had other problems with it as well. If I were you I'd stick with the version you have. (The newer Cingular version adds nothing.)

Thanks. I'll just keep what I've got. My primary interest in the upgrade was a reference that it includes a soft reset icon, to avoid taking the battery in and out each time.

If I keep the version I've got, where can I get the Soft Reset software?

The soft rreset app is by metsfan (it is in his signature). Just look in the after market section.
