Has anybody else gotten and used the Cingular International unlimited plan? I've been on the phone with them for two days now trying to fix problems they caused after adding the unlimited international plan to my account (I am planning on traveling to Europe).

Since they've changed the plan, MMS now no longer works. I can browse the web with the browser, but things like gcalsync, bbweather and ikodorro's mobile ssh and file manager no longer work. And when you call them about any of these problems, they claim it's not their problem, since they're third party applications. They do, however, admit to MMS being down (for two days, they say!).

So, has anybody been able to send/receive MMS the last couple days?

I guess I can live without ssh, but would like to still have the remote file manager and things like gcalsync and bbweather.

At this point I'm extremely frustrated with Cingular. Their stock response of "I understand... have we been able to provide you with excellent service today" after not helping grates on the nerves. And when I say "Sorry, no", their "We appreciate you business" grates even more.

You know, I wonder if their network has changed at all. I just realized that I'm no longer on the Cingular network, rather I'm now on the AT&T network (under Settings, Options, Network).

Until I requested the international plan,I could swear I was still on the the Cingular network.

I have used the plan for the last two years or so. It is nothing more then a Bolt-on feature to your exisiting plan(s). It should not change any of your existing plan features!

That's what I would have thought also, but soemthing obviously changed. The fact that it took me two days to simply get SMS back (the $9.99/1000 package) annoys me to no end.

That's Cingular (AT&T) for you. A few months ago they dropped my BB Unlimited plan completely for no reason and put me on a per K plan. I didn't know anything was wrong until I checked my use online and saw a bill for ~ $700 for a partial month. To be fair they corrected it quickly though.

though FYI...the BB international plan doesn't have WAP provisioned to it so if any of those apps need WAP they won't work while the BB interational plan is provisioned to your acct. The BB international plan takes away WAP because overseas it costs 2 cents per KB to use WAP, no matter what. That is what our (Cingular/AT&T) International Wireless Care department has told me in the past.

That would actually make sense. I'm not leaving until Saturday, but I think I'm already provisioned for international. That would explain why I can SMS and basic web browse.

A shame Cingular's support wouldn't know this if it's indeed the case.

Just spent 2 hours on the phone with Cingular regarding this issue but did get it fixed.

The WAP/ APN provisioning does appear to be the culprit. The solution they found for me was to add it back in. They said to let people know they need to ask for the following provision:

PDP Wap1 APN

Keep in mind, this is mostly a billing problem, not a tech support problem. Somehow, when they add the international plan on and then add the text messaging plans on, they miss this or else it can accidentally be removed. Which explains why some of us have problems and some do not. B/c of the above mentioned concerned with WAP international roaming, things are slightly different for the international customer.

The reason it took me 2 hours to figure this out was b/c their reps had no idea. They could all tell something wasn't provisioned right but they couldn't figure out what it was. I stayed persistent b/c we have someone else in the company that is provisioned very similarly and he hasn't had any problems with his Pearl and mms. Ultimately, they figured it out by pulling up both accounts and going line by line until they got it to work. That might be your best bet when on the phone with Cingular. It's been 5 months for me with this not working. So I was amazed they finally got it to work today.

Finally, I did a problem with the overseas billing also. Apparently, only some of the text packages work with the BB data plan. You cannot get one of the media net packages b/c then it will pull from that data bucket. Once you go over, it starts charging. To Cingular's credit, they gave me the money back after I got the bill. But you wouldn't want to go through that every month.

My config as follows:
Cingular Red Pearl with new TIM (Italy) OS
BB Unlimited International data plan
SMS/MMS text messaging plan 1500 for 9.99

They said I was short that provisioin b/c with the international, I don't automatically get the WAP/ APN information. As a final caveat, I have not travelled internationlly yet so don't know if I'm going to get hit with a bunch of media net charges. I hope not.

good luck..I just got to europe and cingular wants me to pay from .99 to 1.29 for roaming voice and i had the bbinternational plan but its worthless it does work but its not super fast and i was trying to tether my handset to my phone and was unable to get it done. I called and cancelled and also asked them for an unlock code for my phone they told me 7 days so i ordered one of my own form the internet. Cingular is crap they want to take there time so i can put up my roaming rates until they send me the unlock code....crap...pissed anout that...I just got my phone unlocked and put another sim in there.....the only thing is when i put in another sim the internet browser disappeared so i cant use it ?? but i didnt want to spend the money....too much making them shitheads richer
