Default did I miss something....saw this on cnet...

Please Login to Remove!

I was messing around on cnet to day and saw this...

The bad: The RIM BlackBerry Pearl's microSD slot is inconveniently located behind the battery, and call quality was subpar in our tests. The phone's camera doesn't record video, and we wish there were external controls for the music player and integrated Wi-Fi.

did I miss the intergrated wifi or did they get a pearl that had this option built in...or am I just reading it wrong?!

sounds to me like the one they tested had inegrated wifi as they wished it had a short cut button for it...

That means they want external controls for the music player. They also ask for integrated Wi-Fi.

lol, you read it right. They just wrote it wrong. Bad journalism skills.

If you listen to the video review, she states it "still does not have WiFi..."

It's not worded wrong at all. They wish that there were external controls and wifi. I wish I had a ton of money and a fancy sports car.

Wirelessly posted (8700g: BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Well then be right. Of course if their writing were absolutely clear, the OP would not have questioned it in the first place. Their wording could be clearer, since it does lead some to read it as external controls "for the media player and integrated wifi".

So are you also confused about my vehicle and financial status? It's a complete parallel.
Saying that you wish something exists implies that it doesn't. I don't see how you could possibly have another interpretation of the sentence.

It IS possible to misread things without them being miswritten you know

My profession required lots of writing. You are correct, the sentence could be read to say any number of things.

Generally, if people of average intelligence or better can read a sentence different ways, then the sentence was poorly written.

In fact, I think the OP should be commended for 1) reading the review and questioning what it said; and 2) posting his query on BBF. A mental slob he is not.

Sidenote: Because it has Net access I don't think the Pearl is lacking because it does not have Wi-Fi. IMHO Wi-Fi would be overkill.

You are correct with this point. However, the OP was also correct. The sentence structure used by the reviewer was awkward and left open the different interpretation. This was because the two points made could potentially be connected (i.e. the external controls could be used for a media player and for a WiFi menu, if it was on the phone)

The example you used with your financial status was much clearer because the two "wishes" were totally different and essentially unrelated. (Although you probably would need a lot of money for a fancy sports car.)

Okay, done 'jacking this thread for a grammar discussion. Going back to watching the Yanks choke up another game thanks to their stellar starting pitching. A-Rod will have to hit a homer every night just to keep them in it.

Okay, thank you for providing the context for the issue rather than blindly criticizing the writing. I understand the confusion now.

PS Yanks suck...GO JAYS!

No worries, healthy debate enlightens both sides, done properly. Or something like that.

You will be a happy man. D Rays are up a run on the Yanks, and the Jays were beating the Sox last update I saw.

This is one of the small points that struck me. Why would you want WiFi when its already connected?

Yanks just gave up 3 more thanks to their even more pathetic middle relief. Steinbrenner is going to have a stroke. 4th game in a row they have put up at least 5 runs and will lose.

WiFi is very beneficial in some circumstances. I used to work in an office with very weak cell coverage, and having a wifi device was really convenient. Also, not everyone is lucky enough to have decent data rates, although the push is really toward charging just a lower rate for wifi GAN/UMA use.

7-3 Jays. Looks like this one is in the bag...*knocks wood*

If it had Wifi, then you wouldn't need to purchase the data plan, you could go to any free hotspot to surf the web or be it at home to wirelessly sync to Outlook without using the bluetooth connection. Not everyone needs the data plan, then why get the Pearl? just because it looks pretty darn nice.

It could also open up other apps for the Pearl (salling clicker, slingplayer

If RIM ever goes to wifi devices, I can guarantee it won't be free. It will be UMA/GAN based because a) it'll be necessary for push and b) it'll be damanded by carriers.
