Default Holster detection

Please Login to Remove!

Hello everyone,

I just recently registered here after purchasing my Pearl, but I've been reading the forums for some time, deciding if the Pearl was for me. Before getting back on-topic, I have to say this is the best phone & PDA I've owned/seen yet!

My question is - how does the Pearl detect being in a holster?

The reason I ask is that I don't use one, I simply put it in my pant pocket. However, I find the auto lock/unlock feature for holsters to be a very nice one, and would like to simulate it with my pant pocket! In other words, if I know what holsters have that triggers the Pearl, maybe I can make some sort of modification to my pocket to have the same thing.

Any help is appreciated, and I do apologize if this has been asked before, I was unable to find any information.

- J

The holster has a magnet to put the phone into standby.

Also, the sensor for the magnet is behind the keypad of the phone I believe

Any chance you know where the magnet is, or where on the Blackberry it needs to be put to trigger it?

If it's as simple as putting a magnet in my pocket, I'll be a very happy Pearl user!

I'm not sure exactly where, but it is a specific spot, I had a leather case with a magnet to close it and the pearl only went into standby when I put it in a specific way.

The holster works like a dream. I'd spend the extra $$ for it. Not only gives you the stanby mode, but also a little extra dust and scratch protection.

I considered the slim pouch type of holster, but I figured I would get annoyed of taking the holster out of my pocket, and then the Pearl out of the holster every time I have to make or answer a call. Also, it seems impossible to do it all one handed this way.

You can edit the profiles on the phone so that even in the holster it notifies you of a particular call or message. (i.e. if I had a specific ring tone assigned to you, I can modify the profile to make sure that if you call the phone will use your ring tone even in the holster) Also, I only have to slide the phone out far enough to expose the screen to wake it up, more than enough to see who is calling or read the message (the phone goes right to the message waking up). Its leather, so the more I use it and keep it in my pocket, the more it breaks in and softens up, making it fit even better around my phone and in my pocket.

I am a big fan of the holster, its a great accessory IMO.
