OK so I installed the newest OS for my 8100 and here are the changes that I can see:

1. Cingular theme is now AT&T theme...and looks different.
2. You can now set the messages to be seperated by email and SMS/MMS
3. Can now turn automatic backlight off
4. Italicized words in suretype word list for any word not in library
5. About 10 new ringers....lots more "normal", non-musical ringers


Thats all I can see thus far...will post if I see anything else.

Is this an upgrade to the Main Slate (black) OS or the Red pearls? (The reds were already AT&T branded)

any information on where to find this? what the number is? etc...

any problems with installation? is this for the tim italy pack or the cingular 4.2.0.89 us pack?

I have a new pearl from cingular and it comes saying "AT&T" instead of Cingular. I'm currently running V4.2.0.71, I think the "branding" of the cell service has to do with you sim card as well. In another 30 days, the name Cingular should be completely done away with.

I did not think the 4.2.0.89 Cingular package had the above mentioned features. Only the TIM or Telstra 4.2.1.66 OS?

I am guessing you have a Red Pearl. They have the AT&T branding, the black ones that I have seen in the local stores still have the Cingular branding.

I have a Red, and I have a Cingular SIM that I've had for 2 years, and my phone has the AT&T stuff on it. The phone's OS will control the branding.

Just for clarification the sim card has no effect on how or which carriers name appears on the display. The carrier displayed is controlled by software that is "pushed to the phone" just like the service books.

I used the TIM .100 upgrade for the SLATE pearl. My pearl is CINGULAR branded but the upgrade made everything AT&T.

When I installed it took FOREVER for the BB to reboot...thought I was gonna have to call tech support....but it finally came back up.

Don't forget to rename the vendor file....

But no, everything went fine on the uinstall.....amazingly...because I had never tried anything like this before.
