Question Restoring backup from old Pearl to a new Pearl

Please Login to Remove!

Hi Everyone,

I'm still contemplating the replacement of a stolen Pearl, but I wonder will I be able to fully restore the backup of my old Pearl to the new Pearl.
I'm not concerned about the address book or contacts, I concerned about the 3rd party apps and corresponding data - specifically CryptMagic. I had over a hundred passwords stored on my Pearl - I need that info back.

cheers

You should be fine. Just make sure you install the apps on to the new Pearl BEFORE you restore the backup. The apps are not included in the backup, however, the data that you created while using the apps is. So, install all the apps like you originally did, and then restore the new Pearl with the old backup. This will update all the data within the apps.

Not necessarily. Many (most) times the data in the 3rd party apps is lost even during an upgrade. I'm not familiar with CryptMagic as I don't use it but the data *may* not come back from your regular backup.

I did it, it hurt, but I picked up a new Pearl. I got a zero discount on the new one - ouch.

I installed CryptMagic prior to doing a restore and I got all my passwords back.

cheers
