Get a free unlock code.
 

Hey, I wanted to unlock my blackberry pearl which was locked to T-Mobile so I could use it on a different service, but didn't want to pay a site to do it.

So, I emailed T-Mobile to try and find a way to give me an unlock code, and they listed several criteria. I noticed none said I had to be the owner of the phone, just a t-mobile customer for 90 days.

I then asked a friend of mine who had been with t-mo for a while, and had him request an unlock code from T-Mobile via IMEI number, and it worked flawlessly. Totally free.

So, find a friend with t-mo and get the unlock code easily :)

Your friend is nice! it'll be another 90 days before he can request another one.

Have fun attempting this with Cingular... cause most of the time when it comes to unlock codes they either take forever to come cause they don't know what their doing, or it won't come at all.

I got mine unlocked through Cingular and it did take them a long time. But in the end it got it.

I'm not sure how long it will take Cingular... I have a razr as well and haven't been with Cingular long enough to get it unlocked.

All depends on the person you get on the other line and a big amount of patiences.

I was with Cingular for about two weeks before i asked them for an unlock code. I think that they gave me one because I am on a corporate acct. They are much more lenient because of this.

Thanks. I'm about to call T-Mobile and get mine. I thought you had to have the phone for three months.

You have to be a customer in good standing and have had 90 days of continued service....

cingular does take forever...i'd rather pay an unlocking site to do it for me rather than to wait...

Being in the military, I get my unlock codes free and immdiately from T Mobile. I don't have to wait 90 days. I've gotten 3 BB's unlocked right away by calling customer service they same day I get the phone in the mail.
