I am considering a Pearl on Cingular's network in the Northeastern US. I am wondering what kind of reception people feel the Pearl has in comparison to other phones they have used on the network?
The reception I am getting on Cingular/AT&T is better than I was getting with the Motorola Razr. I am in Virginia, nowhere near where you are asking, but so far the reception I am getting is better than my previous phone.
Thanks for the replys. You are right, I guess I should have given a more precise location. I am in Westchester County NY. It is a reasonably densely populated area with good cellular coverage in general. I am very interested that some people feel the reception on the Pearl is equal to or better then the RAZR. I think that is pretty positive.
The pearl passed todays test wonderfully! I drove from Scarsdale NY to Stamford CT and maintained a call the whole ride with great quality. I have been on Verizons CDMA network up to now and was concerned about the hard handoffs from tower to tower of Cingular's GSM network and the call dropping while driving. To this point those concerns have been totaly unfounded. I have made several long calls while driving now and have only lost one. Even that one was during a storm and the other person was also on a cell phone so I was suprised it lasted as long as it did. To this point the Pearl on Cingulars network has been just as reliable as a Motorola E815, a phone with exceptional reception, on Verizon' network. I am driving to Brewster tomorrow so that will be a good test of the Pearl while driving in a somewhat more rural area.
I just got a Perl last week. I found the rf much better then the CU500 that I had. It works were the LG did not. Pretty good too. I am in the Essex, Union and Morris County area of NJ

That is pretty impressive. I am suprised by how many people are saying that the Pearls reception matches or beats phones from LG and Motorola. I have to say though that so far that has been my experience as well. I think if the Pearl performs well on my trip tomorrow I am going keep it.
To be complety honest though the LG Rf was terrible. I had a nokia before that was good. I replaced it with an LG CU500. I thought that 3g was going to be the cat's meow! Big let down. The Pearl brought be back to good RF. Very happy.
I thought 3G was a let down also. I have rarely made good use of Verizons EVDO network with my E815. I was afraid that EDGE would seem really slow but it is fine for what the Pearl's needs are. I have not felt for a min that the data service for the Peral has been to slow. I am leaving for Brewster soon so I will report on the coverage up to there later.
The Pearl performed great today. I went from Rye to Brewster and had a phone call the whole way. This little phone has really suprised me. I was prepared to be disappointed by the Pearl and Cingular but that has not happened. I have been impressed by both. I am going to keep it. I have to figure out how to port my number from my Verizon Family plan with out screwing up my wifes number.I think what I have to do is call Verizon first and split the numbers into 2 seperate plans then port my number out. I dont want to risk losing either number in the process.
