Does anyone know if the blackberry messenger can be used from a computer. Hypothetical.....I have blackberry messenger but my boss does not have a blackberry. He uses a computer for instant messaging. Is there a program he can get so that he and I can communicate through messages?

Any thoughts are appreciated.

You must have a Blackberry to use BB Messenger. BB Messenger uses PIN to PIN communication. It cannot communicate with AIM or Yahoo, etc., or a computer.

You need an Instant Message or chat application. Look in the Aftermarket Software forum on this board for many, including JiveTalk, probably the best out there, and free... for the time being. You need to find out what IM program your boss uses on his or her computer.

Blackberry Messenger is only available for the Blackberry.
If you wish to IM with a desktop computer, you'll need to use some other IM application which is cross-platform. There''s AOL IM, Yahoo IM, Google Talk, ICQ, etc...

I am hoping someone can help me understand this. I have seen that BB Messenger uses Pin to Pin communication. However, when I add someone as a contact - I have to do it from my address book and select their e-mail. Then they have to accept. I assume the email has some special header that the Blackberry recognizes and then pushes it into the messenger program as a new contact request.

Some specific questions I have.

How do you even add someone as a contact by PIN? I see no option to do this. I can only select from my address book. Then I can only choose their e-mail to add.

If it's PIN to PIN is it using data from the phone plan as you chat? I prefer chatting with my wife over bb messenger instead of SMS. I am just wondering what's costing us more.

Thanks to anyone who can elaborate.

If you have the other person's PIN entered into your BB address book, it will give you the option to send the PIN invite. It does on mine.

PIN uses data from the BB Data Plan.

I am having this same issue... I just entered the pin where it asks for the email address... unfortunately only have added 2 people and neither have accepted.

Don't enter the PIN where it asks for the email address.
email = email
PIN = PIN

don't enter one into the other.

yes but I think that's the point of it... when I go to add a contact... and then of course [use once] the only option it has for me to add is by email.... nothing about pin.

To add someone by PIN, go into BB Messenger -> Menu -> Add a Contact. Then highlight the Use Once option and press Menu. You can then select 'Request by PIN'.

Also, the reason you can do it with email is that it will associate the PIN with the email account. It still uses PIN.
