you may want to get a data plan yes it does you log in its data and there will be data to keep your connection alive

yes it does use data. There is no way around this because the program has to keep checking for contacts coming on and leaving.

do you have an idea how much data it uses? i have a 200mb/month data plan. if i leave it connected throughout the day will it be using significant amounts of data?

Your question has been asked a few times on here, and no one has definitively answered it... 1-because there isn't an onboard BlackBerry data usage monitor to gauge only 1 program's data usage...

You will probably be ok with a 200mb plan. That is large unless you are tethering a laptop to your BB as a modem.

Definitely, unless you're tethering or constantly browsing 200mb should be plenty. I do some moderate browsing(3-4 hours a month), and didn't tether at all last month while keeping JiveTalk on all day everyday I only used 35mb of data.

we have a data counter that works per session, which is the amount of time jivetalk the program is running, connected or not.

go to view log, and select bandwidth usage, it'll log the amount data it used and how long the program has been running.

For really really heavy usage, you're not going to exceed 30 mb with JT. I have a couple hundred contacts in my BL, 10 accounts all connected 24 hrs a day, and do a lot of OTA installations of JT for testing, and I run about 30 to 40 mb a month.

Uptime: 45 hr 37 min

681kb in that time was used

That is with some mild chatting and always connected.

Hmmm... I've four accounts connected on my BB:

1. AIM
2. GoogleTalk
3. MSN
4. Yahoo!

... And my bandwidth meter is showing about 100K for 12 hours of connection only -- no chats!

At this rate I'll be racking up 6MB for the month, and I'm on a crappy 7MB/month data plan from Fido.

It's too bad -- JiveTalk is a great app but I don't think I'll be able to keep it...

from 5/18 till 6/10 I have used 21101.40 KB and I dont think a thing about leaving jivetalk signed in I send and recieve documents and browse the net a good bit.
